I'll start off by saying I haven't exactly been the biggest fan of Jim Benning.

I believe the hate he gets on these boards is over the top. He is being called the worst GM in the league and is being compared to Milbury by some

I'm not saying that Benning is a great GM but he is far from the worst of all time or even the worst in the last 10 years (MacTavish, Waddell, MacLean, Gauthier, Burke)

He hasn't made any franchise crippling moves like some GMs yet he is being called the worst? :help:

He managed to be better than Bergevin. So yes, he is underrated as he is no longer the worst GM in the league

You bet small, you lose small.

Benning loses small, and loses small, and loses small...

He lays little turds as he goes, which smell bad but you can still get over. But if you were to stop, turn back, and shovel all the little turds together youd get a giant pile of s***

It seems like it might be about time for a ''Jarmo is an underrated GM'' thread. I haven't seen one in almost a year.

Jim Benning added two pieces to Jason Garrison to get Linden Vey. He is a bad GM and very accurately rated.

Most of his most hated moves are moves that won't be determined for a long time.

He decided to pull the plug on a few prospects he didn't feel would be great NHLers...

McCann-Gudbranson was a a gotta give to get type move he made early prior to the Dman value craziness..

Hes more bad for what hes not doing, than for what he has done

For instance- Not dealing ANY vet at the TDL was a huge mistake. Since then 2 have walked as free agents. Hamhuis could have likely landed a 2nd (or conditional 1st) + good prospect like Russell did.

Are trades like Gudbranson trade bad? HF probably thinks so- but its not really that bad and could actually be a win.

This will likely continue for future years as he holds on to every vet and avoids selling over peices to build for future. Hell do the Flames 2010 routine before being canned and the Nucks are in a much worse place. Hell make 4 or 5 more small bad trades and avoid any bigger trades to rebuild team

yeah this is a trade that really showed/shows HF mob menality for ripping GMs. Gudbranson is a legit NHL player and was dealt for 1 maybe one and a 2nd round pick (which have ~15% chance of making it). Yet this trade is apparently terrible?

Its not a smart bet IMO, but its not a bad trade. Canucks could easily end up winning it

OMG!!!! He added a 7th to Garrison to get the 2nd for Vey!!!! Worst trade EVER!!!!

This is a bad deal but it's not something that set the franchise back or is even a deal that is going to haunt Benning like the Subban deal that Bergiven just pulled off

Garrison sucked when he was here. Tampa is a better fit for him. A 2nd was good value for him

As an outsider, he is not THAT bad.

His draft picks look good, his signings are fine but he's god awful with trades, which is what most people remember about GMs

In some ways I agree, he is considered the worst GM, but I'm not sure he's that bad. Ownership is the real issue. they won't allow a full rebuild.

Yea he sucked. Plus! Since he sucked it wasn't as easy as some would think to move his contract. Thus probably having to sweeten the deal to dump his cap. I thought Garrison was going to be a boss for us when we got him. But the guy couldn't hit the net with a shot ever and he played softer than Tanev. He is a big man and plays like a boy!! Drives me nuts. Freaking smash someone already!!!

He's the worst GM in the league right now by far and honestly I haven't seen one as bad as him since Milbury.

Nucks will be a Bottom 5-10 team in the league for a long time. Bottom 3 this year I think.

He's reworked the D as such...

13-14: Hamhuis, Edler, Bieksa, Garrison, Tanev, Diaz, Stanton, Corrado, Weber, Alberts,
Now: Edler, Tanev, Gudbranson, Hutton, Sbisa, Tryamkin, Larsen, Pedan, Biega, (Juolevi)

I think they lost value in the;
-Gudbranson/McCann trade
-Shinkaruk/Granlund trade
-Bonino/Sutter trade
-Kassian trade
-Clendening trade
-Vey trade

and should have dealt Hamuis or re-signed him

I think they did well on the:
-Baerstchi trade
-Bieksa trade
-Eriksson signing

and most others pretty fair. Not like the lost trades were in favour of improving areas of weakness really, not a fan of his work

I think they lost value in the;
-Gudbranson/McCann trade to be determined. I feel McCann over night after the trade became over valued for what ever reason. At the time it was debatable but when you look at the Hall trade.. This looks pretty good.
-Shinkaruk/Granlund trade To be determined.
-Bonino/Sutter trade I feel = Bonino is a good 3rd liner. He could never be a 2nd liner center for us.
-Kassian trade Disagree. Wash for both sides.
-Clendening trade Meh.
-Vey trade Yes was bad.

and should have dealt Hamuis or re-signed him

I think they did well on the:
-Baerstchi trade
-Bieksa trade
-Eriksson signing
Jensen for Etem = good.
Pedan trade

and most others pretty fair. Not like the lost trades were in favour of improving areas of weakness really, not a fan of his work

imo.

I'm gonna..
You should have kept your previous title...

I agree that he's overrated... He should be proclaimed as even WORSE than he is on hfboards, because he is.
