Yeah apart from rearranging the D pairs a bit that's what I would want. Maybe

Morrissey-DeMelo
Samberg-Pionk
Heinola-Poolman

Lets Morrissey and Pionk play a more offensive game without sacrificing too much behind them. Ease Heinola in a bit with the plan for him to be top 4 eventually.

I think Roslovic is going to be traded yet.

Connor-Scheifele-Wheeler
Ehlers-Stastny-Laine
Harkins-Lowry-Copp
Toninato-Thompson-Appleton
Perreault as a reserve, maybe an injured reserve, with another player still to be signed.

Vesalainen-Gustafsson-Reichel have callup potential, to be a replacement 4th line. Suess can also spot in for the 4th line, adds toughness for when we meet the Flames.

Morrissey-De Melo
Forbort-Pionk
Acquisition-Poolman
Beaulieu, Sbisa as reserves

Samberg-Kovacevic as 1st call ups. Niku is traded before training camp for a late round pick.

Heinola as a late season call up, hoping for a Makar effect.

Vezina winner is the starting goalie
Brossoit gets to back him up.

Comrie is #3 for the time being

I think there would be some temptation to sign Perfetti and keep around the team for 9 games so that might be a different direction, if there is an expanded roster.

If there is no AHL option Nogier, Stanley, Chisholm, Luke Green, Mc Kenzie to the ECHL to get some playing time.

Anyways I still think there will be some roster changes.

The forwards kind of play themselves out, and the top pair of Morrissey and DeMelo seems to be pretty set as well, but I see Forbort-Pionk as the 2nd pair. Munz and Edmunds were suggesting that the other day, and while they aren't known for their cutting edge analysis, they are connected to the team. Eventually i would think Samberg replaces him on the 2nd pair, so I'd think:

Morrissey-DeMelo
Forbort-Pionk
Samberg-Poolman
Beaulieu, Sbisa

is how it starts, with Heinola probably needing another year.

What I would like to happen:

Ehlers-Scheifele-Laine
Connor-Stastny-Wheeler
Copp-Harkins-Roslovic
Perreault-Lowry-Appleton
Literally anyone on earth but Thompson

Morrissey-DeMelo
Samberg-Pionk
Forbort-Poolman
Niku

What I predict will happen:

Connor-Scheifele-Wheeler
Ehlers-Stastny-Laine
Copp-Lowry-Roslovic
Perreault-Thompson-Appleton
Harkins

Morrissey-Demelo
Beaulieu-Pionk
Sbisa-Poolman
Forbort

There's a lot to be said for communication playing defense, and practicing together this offseason should get Forbort and Pionk on the same page to start the year. While Kulikov was a pretty good skater, with some physicality, positioning wise he was all over the map. That's an area we can look to improve, and having a bigger defenseman with our smallest one, may deter him from absorbing so many hits. I can see that being a 2nd pairing.

Until Heinola comes across to play, there is not much offense that we have from our defense. While you can say that Pionk replaced Trouba's offensive output, Morrissey can't replace Buff, his career high is 31 points, and getting to 40 is a reasonable hope for him. Poolman's career high was last year, De Melo's was 22 with Ottawa, which is lower than Beaulieu's with Montreal. Forbort is here for a defensive presence. I am not sure what to expect in Samberg's first year. If he can drive secondary offense that goes a long way to having some balance in each pairing. But the offensive depth is thin, unless Niku becomes a regular, and that seems unlikely. Gawanke is a longshot this year, and Chisholm probably needs to learn the systems before he can have an impact. I think the Jets are becoming more of a team trying to win 3-2 games after last year's changes.

It’s pretty easy to guess the line up for next year.

Pick the exact same line up for the last however years and use that

Connor sheif wheeler
Wheels stats laine
Copp Lowry roslo
Perrault Thompson Harkins

defense a bit different

Morrissey Demelo
Forbort Pionk ( forbort here all year)
Beau Poolman

Samburg pressbox with Sbisa.

I don't see them up-ending heinola mid season to come over for training camp, otherwise they probably wouldn't have re-signed booboo and sbisa and gone out and gotten forbort. I also see forbort in the second pairing, and Samberg maybe cutting his teeth on the third pairing if there is no AHL season.

Ideally I'd like to see this to start:
Ehlers Schief Laine
Connor stats wheeler
Copp lowry roslovic
Perreault Harkins Appleton

Jomo de Melo
Forbort pionk
Samberg poolman

Give laine 20 games with the guys he wants just to shut him up and see how he does there. If he isn't lighting the world on fire, go back to csw/esl

This is what I want to see (not what will actually happen - CSW of course):

Ehlers - Scheifele - Laine
Connor - Stastny - Wheeler
Harkins - Lowry - Roslovic
Perreault - Copp - Appleton

Morrissey - DeMelo
Forbort - Pionk
Heinola - Poolman

Hellebucyk
Brossoit

*Thompson, Beaulieu, etc. in press box
*Vesalainen and Samberg as injury callups

Also it's possible that there will be guys gone (e.g. Roslovic) or added (e.g. Hamonic), but that's too hard to predict.

I hope he will, but I am a bit pessimistic about that because of Maurice's history of playing gritty locker room guys over better younger players

Maurice already likes him more then Apples and Perro. His play in the play-ins clearly won him over. It won’t be long before he surpasses Rosie.

He had a good 1st season in the NHL. I think the highlight was generating a goal playing on the top line with Scheifele and Wheeler.

His playoff goal came off a beauty backhand feed by Lowry to spring him in open ice. I kind of think he's the Tanev replacement for Lowry-Copp on a checking line. I'm not sure Roslovic is as hard on the forecheck, or that he will be back.

However 7 points in 29 games is hardly breaking the door down. Toninato had 11 points in 46, and a lot more defensive zone duty, so he might be competition. Perreault had 15 points in 49, with 2 coming off the PP, but is in decline, and shouldn't play above a 4th line. The Jets may be only offering him a 2 way contract at this time, though I hope Harkins gets an endorsement of confidence from management and coaching too. Appleton is a lock for PK duty next year I think that's why he was the first to sign.

Harkins is stuck where there is no PP time available for him, which he was earning with the Moose, especially if Roslovic and Perreault start in the lineup, so he has to do his best as an energy player to get more ice time. That makes him hard to project.

Power play

Looks like

Wheeler
Schiefele
Laine
Stastny
Pionk?

Power play 2 its where it gets interesting.

Should they put Stastny here? No center
Keep KC on PP1

Should they start on the left wall now with Ehlers to mix it up?

This is the area that Jets misses Myers i think
