This game was way closer then it should be. Not a good game by most of the team, but 2 points is what's important. Not trying to pick on Petan but I think it is time for him to start somewhere else, maybe he will find his game. He almost certainly won't make Jets roster as a full time player.

Did anyone notice the coyotes tapping their sticks on the boards at one point during the game? anyone know what that was about?

WW2 vet. Dude fought in D-day, Dieppe and was a POW at the end of the war. Just unreal.

A+ games from Buff and Armia tonight. Thought the entire D-core played well along with Roslovic, Connor, Danno and Petan (minus his two penalties).

Very scrambly game tonight with some uncharacteristically shaking goaltending. Still pulled out the win and gave the Coyotes fits at even strength.

Another two points, EZ! This was a great win for the Jets, the Jets of yore would have lost. We can now coast to victory on shitty teams!

I think the easy schedule with lots of rest is hiding the problems right now. That shot of Scheif Trouba Lowry says it all. They need those guys back. That's a lot of hockey IQ sitting in the stands.
anyone have a clip of them i missed it on tv. i bet shief was watching the game while the other 2 were on their phones?

If Roslo is a winger will Taney be a healthy scratch in play offs?
I mean you have Wheeler/ Ehlers/Roslo/Armia/ Tanev on one side.
Laine/Perrault/ Copp/Connor
Centres are chef/ little/ Lowry/ Hendricks. Is it a non-issue as you'll never have a completely healthy team?

Never count your points until they are actually added...

Like the chicken saying...

This is an expression which comes from a story in Aesop's Fairy Tales. In the story a woman is carrying a basket of eggs. While she is walking, she begins to think about ....how many chicks she will soon have...how much money she'll make by selling the chicks...the things she'll buy with all the money...As she is thinking about all this, she drops the basket of eggs!
Result?

The woman is left with no eggs and no chicks. Hence the expression, "don't count your chickens before they hatch".

Just got back from my first game this year. Building on Whilee's always-reliable line summaries...

Roslovic- Man, what a motor. Guy was all over in a good way.
Wheeler- I think he's getting gassed. Keeps going, almost had a nice shorthanded goal, but man, he looks like he's forcing himself out there.
Laine- Lots of whiffs. Got covered pretty well, but yeah, not overly impressive.

PLE- Has not been clicking lately. Little seemed steady, but he's never struck me as a line driver as much as he has a reliable middleman. Perreault had some moments. I honestly think Ehlers was dragging the line down. He can be electrifying, but his play was reminiscent of the do-it-all QMJHL superstar. His drives just didn't produce much and his plays didn't seem well thought out.

Copp- Steady game, not a game changer but not a liability. Glad he seems okay.
Armia- Had some moments, some good defensive plays, but lots of whiffs and failing to get the puck on net.
Connor- Frustrating game from him. He's remarkably fast and smart in the O-zone, finds the soft spots, but he could not finish for crap. He had three excellent sniping opportunities and shot them all painfully high and wide. Like, criminally so. Lots of potential though, great vision.

Lemieux- Bleh. His penalty was dumb. Struck me as having a short fuse. Good energy and forecheck, but I always wonder when he'll do something stupid.
Petan- I liked his game. Great redirect, had some great moments. His footspeed has improved, his passing is as good as ever, and he hasn't been as tentative to get in the rough areas. Couldn't see too well from my seat, but both tripping penalties seemed borderline? I dunno.
Dano- Honestly, I liked his game. He was all over the ice, in the dirty areas, and played a good defensive game. Worked hard.

Buff- Pretty decent game. His risky plays weren't that bad and Little was usually covering. Some good offensive prowess and his tip was filthy.
Enstrom- Pretty reliable

Myers- I think he played a great game. Didn't fumble as much as many other players. Did fantastic on the PK and had some good offensive awareness. He is really not bad on the powerplay.
Morrissey- It feels criminal saying this, but I wasn't all that impressed. He had some great offensive moments, but defensively he looked pretty pedestrian. Didn't do the best job clearing his man from in-close.

K+C- Nice game from Kuli. Chiarot wasn't bad. Good even.

Helle- Yeah, pretty mediocre game from him. First two goals were not good, third was a redirect, but meh. Got caught with his pads open during lateral slides.

PK- Mostly good. Some great play by Armia and Myers. I appreciated the well-timed pressure in the neutral zone. Did their stupid tight passive box near the end though.

PP- Awful. Errant passes, whiffs, fumbles. The first two PPs had decent enough structure, but the Coyotes were always (correctly) anticipating that cross-ice pass to Laine. Once that was shut down, the structure kind of fell apart. Good stickwork by the Yotes though.

I think one of my biggest gripes from the game (aside from goaltending) was letting opposing players walk deep into the sweet spots uncontested. That led to some dangerous scoring opportunities. When the game is tight, the Jets seem to instinctively fall back, but in this case to a fault. This could bite them in the derriere in future games.

Anyways, glad we one. Wish it wasn't so close. On to the next one.

Player post-game audio: Roslovic, Petan, Byfuglien & Kulikov.

Coach Maurice post-game scrum topics: Overall thoughts on the game. Good sign that the team still won even when Hellebuyck wasn't at his best. Risk of putting young players in dealing with excess energy. Winning 20 of 25 at home, what's this telling him bigger picture about his team?

Quick thoughts....

Kind of an ugly game, and the Jets weren't sharp. Good to bank another 2 points, though.

LWR - Roslovic was outstanding again. He blew by OEL and drew a penalty - not many players have that sort of explosiveness. Wheeler was meh. I'm ready to have our top RW back again. Laine was somnolent.

PLE - Not a great night for this line. They had some moments, but just weren't clicking. Ehlers was in and out. Perreault was sub-par (for him).

CCA - Very good game for Connor. Armia was so-so. Copp was generally solid. We've come to expect better D from this line.

LPD - This line started out brilliantly. Petan showed a lot of speed and creativity and smart. They were playing with energy. But they really let the Yotes back into the game with the three penalties. Dano is a bit snake-bitten.

39-33 Really solid game for Buff and Enstrom. Buff is heating up.

44-57 Didn't like this pairing as much. Myers was fumbling the puck again. Morrissey got better as the game progressed.

7-5 Nice game by this pair. Kulikov was solid.

Hellebuyck was shaky, at best. This was a game that he looked like he might lose by himself. Lacked concentration, which is sort of a problem when you're a goalie.

Did you just use the word “somnolent” on a hockey forum?

Little Nicky Petan damn good. Go figure. This team's depth is almost forcing them into a trade isn't it?

Nice we can still win with sup-par play by Bucky. WTF was he doing with those frequent adventures behind the net.

JoMo's getting bold with those oZ forays....very encouraging.

PK was very good. Dogs barely had a chance to set up.

It's remarkable how much success these "replacement players" are having when given the chance.

4th line was noticeable... Unfortunately they will be remembered for taking 3 penalties..

Petan Lemieux looked good early but looked faded near the end.. But the whole team did...

Glad Scheif is coming back tho.

I'd have started Hutch tonight.

We've finally been doing it this year, it's not 5 years ago when we counting dead embryos!

How about we win the next game and leave it at that, tho its a free world... kinda... maybe... but you have every right to think as you want to, so just forget what I have said...

I like your optimism....

Somewhere nice
Re watched all the goals against Helly. Those were goals that are scored in an everyday nhl games.

Screened but the puck look to hit something
Deflection
Cayotes panned on his shot, and scored point blank

He really buckled down at the end special on the power play. That screen shot where he deflected it with his blocker away. Didn't know how he saw that one.

Cayotes had more traffic in net today, lots of screen. We played Petan, Dano, Roslovic, Connor , Lemieux today 5 forwards. Give the team a break.

Wheeler it's catching up on him. Schiefele is a welcome , relief, hopefully Lowry also.

Petan, good for him. Looks stronger and faster. Looks confident now, hungrier. In my eyes, he will replace Perrault when the time is up. He is skilled enough to do it.
Lemiuex I think was so happy, it looked like he scored that goal.
It seems all the young guys are playing for each other, trying to outdo each other but in a good way. Similar to Laine and Ehlers.

On to the next games. Beating the BLUES will really help the JETS get some cushion from them.

GO JETS GO

Petan looks like a PP specialist.....not enough other attributes
Chariot gets better.....how are his numbers? Do they show him improving?
We need an Armia for the left side....he is that effective
Connor got better as the game wore on.
Roslo played well from the start.
Good Buff tonight
Worst I've seen them play in quite a while.
2points and 1st place GJG
