Battle of Shutdown C: Couturier vs. Burmistrov
2011-12 Malkin WOWY CF%:
| CF/20 | CA/20 | CF%
W/ Couturier | 22.38 | 15.07 | 59.8

W/ Burmistrov | 19.07 | 22.00 | 46.4

Looks like Malkin actually does better offensively/defensively against Couturier than on average... but the opposite for the Burminator

Statistics and Stuff
Ever had someone say that guys is a ___ line player. Well here's the stuff.
There is a row for this season and last season. (Where applicable) You can see where they list in NHL as a forward or defensman, and for their individual position for forwards. In the relative to position columns, there is a rating (1-4 for forwards, 1-3 for D) on level of difficulty for usage stats, and level of competence for result stats.

For stat information, please see post #2 for glossary.

Usage Stats:
RelQoC: level of difficulty in match-ups
OZS: percentage of shifts that start in the offensive zone (higher = easier)

Results Stats:
Corsi: differential like +/- but includes shots, blocked shots and missed shots, and is per TOI
RelCorsi: difference between team's Corsi when on the ice and team's Corsi when player is not on ice
SF/60: shots for per 60 mins of play
SA/60: shots against per 60 mins of play
G/60: players goals per 60 mins of play
A1/60: players primary assits per 60 mins of play
P/60: players points per 60 mins of play
Fenwick: differential like Corsi, but does not include blocked shots (since blocked shots can be a repeatable team strategy)
CF + CA + CF%: these are just Corsi events (so shots, blocked shots, goals, and missed shots); CF is CorsiFor; CA is CorsiAgainst; CF% is a ratio CF/(CF+CA)

The site I use for stats (behindthenet.ca) doesn't have everyones position correct, many players who play wing are still marked as centres. So, I had to make an assumption that the players who are placed incorrectly are somewhat evenly dispersed through all skill levels (4th line Wright all the way up to 1st line Eberle). To work for this, the cutt-off for what line your player is on depends on the number of people pooled to that position. I gathered if player 'A' is in top quarter there, then they are most likely in the top third in actuality.

I didn't do Tangradi (this or last year) + Bogosian (this year) due to not fitting in my arbitrary sample size cut-off.

Oh god, it burns. This will take me a while to get through

Edit: Finally read it. Very statsy indeed. Definitely a nice... deviation from the standard B/GDTs

But the description for the 3rd line LW doesn't sound like Ladd! ;)

Nice job!

Should be a good tilt today. Always entertaining when the Jets and Philly collide.

Great work on this, garret. I really liked how you did up the Jets lineup.

If effort stays at level it's been for past week and a half then Jets have a chance to dictate pace of this game. Gotta think Flyers come out hard for this one after a few bad losses.

To sleep and sobriety and good game in the morning.

I really could get used to watching the games at 7PM with some friends and tons of beer, instead of watching them in the morning before work in the dark.

Awesome stats garret9!
