roslovic 2nd for hamonic
I’d try Roslovic + 3rd.
If that doesn’t work first, then I’d start upping the offer, but not til I tried that.
Hamonic only has this year left, before UFA, so I wouldn’t go above a 2nd, but I’d still start lower.

"No, you don't understand. You have to take our ripoff deal for our discardable asset, because you're screwed. Never mind that there's any other teams out there that might have a fairer deal; never mind that this ripoff deal creates more problems than it solves. You just have to."

It's kind of curious just how incredibly annoying I find this particular line of argument even when my team isn't involved in any way.

I don't think he's ever played the right side.

Frankly, if we're going to trade a blueliner to the Jets, I'd expect it to be Savard. I'm not entirely sure what the return is, though - in part because I'm getting the impression that Jets fans think more highly of Roslovic and his probable upside right now than I do.
i don't mind Savard actually. only thing that id hesitate on is contract status RFA vs UFA-2 and his impending deal as a 31 year old

Top 4, all situations D man on a good contract makes zero sense?

lol
I mean it should make sense for just about any team, but I do think the Jets primary target would be a more defensive defenseman. The majority of Jets fans (at least on HF boards) seem to have a very strong disdain for Ristolainen in general. Which leads to the "bottom pairing defenseman", "power play specialist" comments that inevitably enter the conversation and quickly derail any honest conversation about Ristolainen's value.

Has he ever performed as a top 4 dman over a season?

He might be better in a sheltered role, but then why the **** would we trade for him? We don't need dmen who need to be sheltered, we need guys who can play the role Risto has failed at his entire career.

Doesn't need sheltering tho, so try again.

Risto now looks good both in his zone and in the attack, he plays for 23+ minutes and not even in the first block of the PP.

I'd rather keep Ristolainen, let him keep crushing it this season under a competent Dzone system for the first time in his career, then wait for Thompson to get called up and fill the 2RW hole, and laugh at all the haters in April.

Trade Montour if they still need FW help, get a good trade without the contentious drama.

So why does he perform so terribly?
What are you basing his "terrible performance" on? His advanced stats playing on terrible Sabres teams? Again, the hyperbole when discussing what Ristolainen is as a player isn't needed. No one is saying he doesn't have his warts, there's plenty of brainfarts in his own zone, which are exacerbated by playing too large a role on very poor teams. There's also a huge physical element and the ability to score 40+ points a year. There's a reason there was 30 scouts at the Sabres game amid these Ristolainen trade rumors. If the player were as useless as he's portrayed by you and a very vocal contingent around these parts there'd be no interest.

His advanced stats "playing on terrible Sabres teams" are no better than terrible dmen playing on those same teams. His simple stats show he's a PP specialist. being garbage defensively is one thing, being poor offensively 5v5 is another.

No one cares about the physical element if he's bad (Well a few, maybe Potato Maurice does) He scores 40 points a year playing on the PP. He's a poor 5v5 producer.

There are dozens of scouts at many NHL games. You have no idea what the interest is, and if teams were soooo god damned interested he'd be traded by now.

I'd rather Neal Pionk, and that's saying something considering I hate the Trouba trade.

But nearly everything he's done is awful.

I would literally sooner press fast forward on the season without trading for any D help to get a decent pick.......then give up any single good asset (pick, prospect or roster player) to get Ristolainen. Some posters on HFB are funny, they offer you a player, you refuse said player........then they go on & on & on about how you should really take said player. Weird......only on HFB.

Dahlstrom played 23 minutes the other night for the Jets.
Doesn't mean he's worth a major forward piece on a good long term contract.

If Risto was in the Jets dressing room I'm sure they would play him and maybe a lot. But that doesn't mean he's worth one of our young core to us at this time.

Next summer would be a better time to address this.
The Jets can see if they can get a good UFA (I've seen a list that shows a lot of D are UFA this summer) or perhaps a trade at that time. In season trades are difficult.

No need to spend a big asset to get a player that doesn't even fit the style for the role you're trying to fill.
