I don't know if this has previously been pointed out but it was clear to me by the end of the first period that the Canucks were going to be shut out. No matter how many good chances they had to score, no matter the circumstances, it just felt like one of those games that we've seen so often against an inferior goalie that they simply weren't going to score.
On another note, I thought Gaudette had a good game last night. There is still hope for this player, though I think it will be as a winger. I think the puck will start going in for him soon. Pearson has been very, very solid. I wonder if he could return a second round pick. I would even consider trying to resign him in the off-season if he accepts a team-friendly contract. Finally, I've been really impressed with Tyler Myers the last few games. Another solid game for him last night. He is obviously overpaid but so long as he can contribute in a meaningful and positive way, the cap hit won't be so bad.

we need to move on from the idea that every player north of 30 sudden is terrible.

this team is in desperate need of edler.

slotting a guy who gets walked once per game is a great way to solidify last place though.

Edler doesn’t get “walked” every game.

You realize we dont have good younger guys right? Playing younger players for the sake of playing young players doesn't guarantee they will improve. And one could argue it damages their development.

Not to mention.. This team would be laughable without Edler. He's hasn't even really regressed.

It's this type of logic thats put the canucks where they are now. No age gap, mentorpede, nonsense. Get the best players and put them on the ice.

If he wants to stay in Vancouver, one-year cheap deals are probably all they can afford under the salary cap.

Then I expect he'll probably move on because on current evidence there's no reason why he should accept a 50+% pay cut. Good luck on finding a better option to sign a top-4 defenceman to a short-term contract at a team-friendly cap hit.

Something those retro gradient jerseys really made me realize is that there is WAY too much blue on the Canucks regular home uniforms. The helmet, jersey, shorts and socks all being blue is so bloody stupid. As bad as the gradient was, and as tacky as some of those white lines looked, just the fact that the colour balance was there made a world of different and made that whole uniform really pop. Looked like a real hockey uniform. The lack of the thick bars at the bottom of the jersey also suited the orca better. Having the rounded bottom of the orca right on top of the thick bar on the regular jersey is a jarring clash of shapes. That being said they still can't seem to get the trim outlining the orca correct. The right colour would actually make it connect to the rest of the uniform instead of looking like a copy paste that doesn't belong.

UGH why is this so hard?!

Breaking , teams that get scored on first win about 30% of the time. We win 0%

hard to be obtuse about straight facts.

me too. We are dumping on him recently (we are pretty much dumping on everyone recently) however I actually also wouldn't mind bringing him back on a year to year basis at a massively reduced contract since he's already 36. He takes it or leave it.

You absolutely bring back Edler. I'd like to think he'll take a very team friendly contract to stick around. He's not a dominant force or anything but he's aging like a fine wine on the Canucks blueline. He fits in nicely on the 2nd pairing as the left side guy.

Rather have Edler than Benn for sure. It’s all about the contract though. Got to be 3 mil or less and one year.

Edler becomes eligible for incentive laden 35+ contracts moving forward. We know he doesn’t want to leave.

$2m base salary plus $2m in bonuses based on games played (75% of games = $500k, top 4 in minutes = $500k, top 4 in points, playoffs $500k).

I’m content to move on as well since I’m not really too keen to watch 5 of the 6 same Dmen and the whole left side be the same again next season. The Benn replacement/Hughes partner needs to be a legit top 3 or it’s going to keep looking the same.

Edler already took a shorter term than Myers. I believe he’ll end up taking less money as well.

I said this in the Fantasy GM thread: the Canucks should try to pry Damon Severson from New Jersey. He'd make an excellent RH partner for Hughes.
