JETS TRY TO STOP ROLLING AVALANCHE

JETS (5-5-2) at AVALANCHE (9-1-0)

TV: TSN-JETS

Season series: The Winnipeg Jets and Colorado Avalanche meet for the first of five times this
season, and for the first time as members of the Central Division. They haven't played since
Winnipeg won 5-1 at home on Feb. 19, 2012, to complete a sweep of the two-game season series when
the Jets were part of the Eastern Conference.

Big story: The Avalanche are the surprise of the new season, with nine victories in their first
10 games including a 4-2 home win against the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday. They've outscored
their opponents 32-14 and have won three in a row. The Jets come to Denver after a 2-1 shootout
win against the Dallas Stars on Saturday.

Team Scope:

Jets: Andrew Ladd scored the only goal of the shootout but goaltender Ondrej Pavelec was the hero
of the win in Dallas. Pavelec stopped 35 shots through 65 minutes and was perfect on three
attempts in the tiebreaker. Ironically, the victory made him the winningest goaltender in
franchise history with 95 -- one more than the guy he beat, Kari Lehtonen.

"Our goalie was fantastic," coach Claude Noel said. "We gave him some opportunities there, even
at the end, that were point blank and he had to come up big. He made some really key saves. It's
getting to the point where we're starting to expect that from Pavelec, and he's coming through
big-time for us."

Avalanche: The win against Carolina gave the Avalanche nine victories in their first 10 games for
second time in franchise history and the first since moving to Denver in 1995. It's quite a
turnaround for a team that finished last in the Western Conference and 29th in the overall
standings in 2012-13.

"It's special," center Matt Duchene said after the win. "I've said before, going from where we've
been last year and the year before and the year before that, it feels great right now. But you
can't be satisfied. We know how fast it can turn. We've been there before with a nice start and
then slowed down in the stretch. So we have to keep going the way we are."

Who's hot: Evander Kane had the Jets' lone goal prior to the shootout on Saturday and has scored
three times in Winnipeg's past five games.

Duchene had a pair of goals on Friday, giving him five goals and seven points in Colorado's past five games.

Injury report: Winnipeg will be without rookie defenseman Jacob Trouba (neck) until mid-November.
Forwards Jim Slater (undisclosed) and Chris Thorburn are listed as day-to-day.

Colorado reports no injuries but is without forward Cody McLeod, who's sitting out a suspension.

Hoping this is one of those times the Jets pull off an unlikely victory. Maybe they'll be the start of the Av's precipitous return to earth. :)

Everything I have in my vbank is riding on a Jets win! Go Jets GO!

Eventually the Avs will fall back to earth. They have an unbelievable start but it is pretty unlikely they will go from bottom 5 to top 5 in one season. In all likelihood they will trend towards the middle of the pack by the end of the season. And since the Jets are a middle of the pack team, I see this as being a closer match-up then their records might suggest.

Winning back-to-back road games would be a huge boost for the boys. calling 3-1 Jets.

Don't wanna intrude here too much but Johnson played with Hejda and Barrie was a healthy scratch last game, and the previous 5 games as well.

Barrie (D) and Holden (D) are probably our scratches with McLeod (FW) serving suspension.

I think this Avs team really is improved and we've been proven wrong about regression before like with the Leafs. That said I hope for a clean win with no OT. 3-2 Jets, lets go!

We haven't been proven wrong. The Leafs were trending downwards towards the end of lasf season and would have fallen out of the top 8.

My thoughts as well. IMO they are a wild card team like us

Thanks! Appreciated. I usually try to get lineups from the previous opponent's GDT's, but today I used dailyfaceoff.com, as I was lazy. ;)

G'luck tonight! It'll be a good test for the Jets.

Jets played a pretty tight, defensively responsible game last night which would be a good thing to do again tonight. Even the Buff giveaway was a bit of a blessing as it clearly illustrates why you don't make sloppy cross ice passes. Interesting that they played a 1-2-2 for the third last night. Montoya gets the start tonight?

Hoping for a great start tonight. I've really liked the efforts in the last 3 (not perfect, but better than the previous games), so I hope the team continues that play.

Nice balance on the Avs top 3 lines, so the Jets will not be able to have many "lapses" or else they's be down by a couple very quickly.

Go Jets!

I am not a believer in the Avs. The group upfront that they have is excellent. That blueline is putrid. Perhaps Varlamov has eclipsed peak-Hasek, but I'm willing to suggest that he isn't quite that good. It's too bad we're on the second half of a b2b, but I think we have a shot in this one. As long as we don't dig ourselves a 0-2 grave early in the first.

Maybe the Jets can put on their old "streak busters" hats.

Who you gonna call?

STREAK BUSTERS!

This is what I am hoping for as well Sweeney!

Not sure how we will react to the B2B against such a hot team in their building but we don't have much to lose so up at em!
