Not sure what you mean. Very few players in the league snipe goals from near the blue line.

    When did that happen?

also he’s a Dman who plays the point on the PP. not sure how Jesse is supposed to score those kinds of goals when he gets 0 seconds of PP time.

Jesse was taking more chances with the puck last night and I liked it. You can't reach your full potential if you are not playing at your limits and I think he did, especially early in the game. Don't know if Tippett liked it though, zero PP time and I think Tipp played Yamamoto a few times with McDavid and Draisaitl over him as well. Still, 5 goals in 7 games, seems to be going pretty well

Okay obviously small sample size but this looks insanely promising.

However it doesnt quite tell the entire story as it may very well be mcdavid+piljujärvi raising everynes gf%.. also ofcourse he has been on quite a goalstreak so theres that. Would like to see cf% aswell.

Thats actually expected goals for so is more encompassing that just goals for. His underlying numbers are actually amazing in a number of ways and maybe tomorrow I’ll take some time to do a deeper dive. Playing with 97 helps, but 97s numbers are also rising to. This is McDavids best metrics year overall (thus far) and his defensive metrics look super good. So it seems pretty mutual

I was 100% wrong. From awkward bambi with funny accent (finnish one, english was non existent) to a stud who looks very strong, feels confident with his communication and looks like a legit top-6 forward.

He's playing with a hell of a lot of confidence right now.

Would be a godsend for the team if he could maintain this level of play consistently. That is going to be the real test now.

I wasnt following the JP saga much this summer, but I am very thankful no GM offered a semi good return for JP. I do think we would have said yes to a 2nd round pick if it was offered

Been doing it for 18 games so far. I just hope that if he has one bad game or hell even a bad period that’s he’s given a little bit of a leash. he’s playing loose and full of confidence like you said, the quickest way to kill that confidence is to come down too hard on a player for a simple mistake.

Come on, how do you not like this guy? Just one of those players you want to see succeed at all costs. Him going back to Finland to work on his game, just to come back and fit in on the team and in the city is a great success story. It’s awesome to see him playing with confidence.

I'm guessing quite a few GM'S out there now are regretting not sweetening their offers a little bit more back then now.

What a hit it would be for this organization if Jesse can become an important core piece of this team after being written off by so many.

Larsson is the perfect example of how not playing at your limits stunts you

What I dislike about this kind of graphic is that there are numerous xG models, but I don't know which one they're using.

Naturalstattrick, hockeyviz and moneypuck (the big three imo) all use their own models.

IMO, I think Jesse has elevated to become the second to McDavid and Nuge is now the 3rd wheel.

Watching JP return and perform well in these 18 games makes me think this organization is finally maturing. In years past he'd have been fired into the sun by the Klowe/MacT/Chiarelli types who didn't have the patience to work through growing pains of youth, and we'd be watching him do this on another team like Petry, Schultz, Strome etc.

There are a few of us who recognized the talent in JP and probably lots of quiet fans. It's a gang like minority of extremely vocal "fans" that bashed him every chance they got.
