It wasn't a great draft. I didn't like the pick which screamed of needs over BPA but comparing him to every 3rd overall pick in existence is a useless exercise when some draft classes are significantly better than others

Ya. He’s for sure in barn when Danault is getting shifts before him. And I don’t think he played badly. It’s a shame. I love this kid, but they just don’t seem to want to progress him.

Dannault is faster, that's the reason why, I like the new strategy tbh, KK just doesn't have the speed to spin back and regroup over and over. The only slower players who get to play are Toffoli because he is the team's biggest scoring threat by far and Suzuki who is one of if not the better skill players with the puck on the team.

KK seems to be in the doghouse. No ice in 3 on 3.

He's been getting the odd one shift in OT or having no shift entirely since March (when KK was playing super well and producing).

A much bigger problem is that he gets benched in the last ~10 minutes of the games like the 4th liners and Romanov when Ducharme decide they are going to OT. Julien actually played KK in those moments. It's like he was back at 18 years old and this was his first season.

edit to the first season comment: there is a difference, he's playing top 6 now and way more defensively.

So.... It doesn't mean Habs had to take any of them.

Even if he fails to become what he was projected, the nonsense going on in this thread is insufferable. It's normal to expect progression and more from him, but some of you are way out of line.

He's still a kid ffs, be patient. He still has a lot of time ahead of him to grow. Some take much longer to develop, you can't just freaking quit on him this early, he has way too much potential for that.

He works his butt off and gets benched at the end of every game despite making things happen all game and being defensively responsible. He's basically a better Armia right now with the potential to be a lot more like a Barkov-lite.

24 games in 42 days

Petry 0 goals in 22 games
Danault o goals in 13 games

yet these are seasoned vets that have been our best players in the past. Maybe KK has just wore down mentally. Instead of 10 pages after a loss, why not just say maybe that this insane schedule is playing a part in his struggles after putting up a .5 ppg in the first 3 months of season, when we weren't playing a game every other day. It's just sad that posters seem to be enjoying themselves to crap on him.

His shot needs a lot of work. He'll score a lot more points if he could wire it more often. Too often his shot just gets absorbed by the goalie.

Because saying second wave 2 TOI isn't the same as wave 1 TOI is the equivalent of saying it doesn't count. Wow.

Lets look at some other teams wave 2 shall we (May 3 lineup from dailyfaceoff.com). Because you need to compare apples to apples. So wave 2 to wave 2. Note: not stats for players moving between wave 1 and 2.

Teamwave 2 playersHighest pts
FloridaTippet, Weegar, Wennberg, Gusev, Montour6 in 97:31 minutes (Wennberg TOI/G 1:50)
VegasTuch, Karlsson, Smith, Pietrangelo, Marchessault6 in 120:56 minutes (Marchessault TOI/G 2:28) (Tuch is next one in pts on wave 2 with 4 pts TOI/G 1:56)
DevilsWood, Kuokkanen, Serverson, Butcher, Sharangovich4 in 96:57 minutes (Severson TOI/G 1:54)
BostonCoyle, Krejci, Smith, Hall, McAvoy14 in 119:00 minutes (Krecji TOI/G 2:35) (next, McAvoy with 7 in 91:59 minutes and TOI/G of 2:00)
Carolina (best PP in the league)Fast, Necas, Bean, Teravainen, Niederreiter11 in 90:23 minutes (Necas, TOI/G 1:53 then it falls to 5 pts next)
ColoradoKadri, Toews, Timmins, Nichushkins, Buravokosky11 in 100:20 minutes (Buravokosky TOI/G 2:11, similar to Carolina for the drop off)
Buffalo (they nave the nearest pp% to the Habs)Skinner, Thompspn, Bryson, Ristolainen, Ruotsalainen5 in in 85:00 minutes (Ruotsalainen TOI/G: 1:53)

I tried to pick good, middle and bad teams on the PP...and I don't feel like doing all of them, but it seems getting 4-6 pts on wave 2 is normal production.

Interesting, great effort putting this together. However, your data is flawed and not directly comparable because the PP ice-time is much more evenly split in Montreal between the two waves than the other teams mentioned. We have to take this into consideration. KK averages 1:58 of PP ice-time per game, while Nick Suzuki averages only 2:25 (27 seconds more). KK produced 4 points on the PP (all assists), while Suzuki has 13 points (5 goals, 8 assists).

If we look at most examples of "2nd wave" players with low point totals around the league, there's a much bigger discrepancy in PP ice-time in relation to their 1st wave players. For example, in Buffalo, Skinner averages 1:17, Eichel 3:27 (2:10 difference). In Florida, Wennberg averages 1:50, Huberteau 4:15 (2:25 difference). In New Jersey, Severson averages 1:54, Hughes 3:07 (1:13 difference) etc.

Using data from the NYI would be a better comparable taking into account how their PP ice-time is split between their two waves. Bailey averages 2:05 and leads their team with 9 points on the PP, while Barzal averages the most at 2:36 and has 7 points. Walhstrom with 1:48, Pageau with 1:52 and Nelson with 2:11, all have 8 points each. PP production is much more evenly spread between their players in relation to how their ice-time is split.

His shot needs a lot of work? What

EDIT : I thought I was in the Caufield thread
Sidenote: I hope Caufield is willing to share his shooting secrets with our guys. He's one of the best shooters in the world at 20. A side benefit to having elite players is how they can help other players improve.

And I hope he spends a lot of time with Lehkonen.

Frankly, the KK, Caufield, Suzuki and Romanov threads have all been embarassing reads this year. You'd think people are talking about underperforming veterans with multi million dollar contracts.

When i’ve read this, i am very happy that i have blocked everybody that doesn’t have the common sense to talk of young kids like that without trashing them when they’re not playing great.
