In the scheme of things it was pretty irrelevant, but I guess it's one for the rules lawyers here.

Jesper Fast shot the puck and it actually went over the line, but since it still looked like a save and it was a bang-bang play the ref called no goal. Within like thirty seconds, the video crew was able to see that it was an indisputable goal and the horn sounded without waiting for a stoppage in play.

I know it's happened before where a team has "scored" after a good goal was waived off in the other direction; I'm sure there have been penalties too. I've only ever seen them bring it to a review when play (finally) reached a stoppage - I think this way is clearly better, at least when the evidence is this clear-cut.

The NHL war room in Toronto, as part of a rule that was added during the GM meetings in November, “buzzed” down to MSG to stop play and indicate that the puck crossed the line.

Colin Campbell said that they added this rule because a lot can happen in the time where the play happens and the next whistle.

In previous seasons the play would not be reviewed until the next stoppage of play.

Hmm.. didn't know they changed that rule. I like it; it's a good change.
