Is this player salvageable? Only a couple of seasons removed from a 40 goal campaign. Can’t be that washed up, right?

EDIT: Is he being utilized differently from when he actually produced? I know he no longer plays with Eichel and he’s been falling since he left that line, but has he fallen too far?

Contract sucks something horrible. Would have to keep salary and then skinner’s puck luck would probably reverse and make Buffalo look dumb.

Bad situation in Buffalo

According to the Score, the worst contract in the league is Erik Karlsson’s. Skinner’s might be worse than that, considering he was a healthy scratch.

If Dave Tippett has an aneurysm and starts scratching McDavid does McDavid have the worst contract in the league now?

It was clear since the beginning that Skinner was not a 9 million dollar player, but taking him this season at face value under a coach who decided 2 years ago that Skinner has no place on his team no matter what is idiotic. Before even attempting to gauge his value 2 things need to be done

1. Hire Bruce Boudreau or someone who has a record of success coaching Skinner like players

2. Give Skinner 10 games with Eichel and Reinhart

If Skinner blows it then his value is what it is now, if he goes on a GPG tear then there's no reason to get rid of him.

Not a trade proposal involving Skinner or anything of the sort. Are you not curious as to how a player can fall off the rails so quickly?

Doesn’t matter how much Skinners game has fallen. His contract isn’t movable due to his extreme lack of production and also the the fact that he has a NMC. He won’t play anywhere else except for Toronto and I can assure you that Dubas & co. Aren’t exactly itching to make a deal there.

Skinner will be a Sabre until one of the following happens...

1. The contract ends
2. Skinner retires
3. Sabres bite the bullet and buy him out the in a few years when the penalty isn’t so bad

even if skinner goes on a goal scoring tear no team will want to touch that contract for pure fear of the risk happening what it's going on right now. non-contract year skinner is a not worth anything close to $9 mil. little upside, tons of risk with that cap hit and term left. alex semin was similar and basically whimpered out of the league on minimum contracts

It's hard to fathom that after one 40 goal season Jeff Skinner was given such a lucrative contract by the Sabres. It's not like this guy was some kind of Stamkos-lite during the bulk of his career either where some misguided franchise might bet on a star player to get back on the horse. Can't see another team picking up this radioactive contract, but a buyout lasting into the 2030s would also be untenable.

Just like Lucic was.

And then it was moved.

Think Buffalo has to eat 2M of it and then it's movable.

EDM to Calgary is one thing when Lucic let it be known that he wanted to be near home in Western Canada. Skinner wants to be as close to the greater Toronto area as possible... so which one of Toronto, Ottawa or Montreal is calling Buffalo to make that happen? Skinners not waiving to go to Arizona or something like that.

That was trash for trash at comparable cap hits over same term. Calgary saved money iirc and Edmonton prayed neal could score. No one won.

So look for a 7M dollar player that's just as garbage with the same term. That's the return.
