Kind of depressing that it takes an injury to Carter to get TT in the lineup, should have never come to that.

I am certainly sad that we will be without Carter for a few games, but I think long term if TT forces Sutter to play him, we will be for the better.

And if Toffoli had come to camp prepared to battle for a roster spot instead of expect a roster spot, he would've been up with the Kings since game 1. Nobody but Toffoli is to blame for not being on the opening night roster.
For some reason people around here over look this and lay the blame on Lombardi and Sutter for Toffoli starting the season in Manchester instead of laying the blame on the player. I guess that's the easy way around it.

Oh the preseason, I'm really starting to wonder what the hell we were doing this preseason:

*Frattin was given that second line LW spot based on absolutely nothing and then all throughout training camp and the preseason apparently we never figured out he's not good on LW. After only two or three regular season games, Frattin is taken off LW. Are you trying to tell me we never figured out he's a natural RW earlier?

*Toffoli has a poor preseason so he is sent down. I don't agree with it because he proved himself the prior year and we need his skill level, but I get it.

*If you are going to send Toffoli down for having a bad preseason, how the hell can you send down Pearson? Pearson had a fantastic preseason, and plays the position we are weakest at. Pearson earned his spot, but was send down because he was waiver eligible so that we can keep one of the many redundant grinders this team loves so much. Apparently having a good preseason only matters so much...

They may think Pearson needs more seasoning, the evidence to support that is he is still down in Manchester.

Vey/Toffoli were the first call ups despite Toffoli playing poorly in preseason.

Pearson in not as talented, as Toffoli not as experienced as Vey.

So the Kings probably feel he needs more time in the AHL.

Toffoli didn't lose the roster spot because of the ******** preseason excuse. He wouldn't of gotten it even if he did great.

Riiight.

So why does he get it now? More directly, why did he play 19 minutes the other night instead of sitting so Nolan or one of the other lunchpailers could play?

Yeah, Dean and Darryl really didn't know what they were doing this preseason. Again, I feel the weight of the falling cap and all the RFA contracts expiring at the same time broke Lombardi.

Either way his play in the preseason didn't warrant a spot.

And that play of Lewis, Stoll, Clifford, Frattin all season have warranted a spot?

All I know is, we saw Toffoli creating offense on the biggest stage last season, this is a team that everyone knew was going to struggle to score goals. To have a talent like that available, and wasting him in Manchester while people like the four above and Carcillo are getting regular icetime and PP icetime (in the case of Stoll) is absolutely ridiculous.

And funny how the play in a 3 week camp and a few exhibition games means more than regular season and playoff games, how else do you explain Clifford and Stoll, who have been awful since about last February continuing to get tons of icetime.

I do find it an odd line of thinking that a handful of preseason games matter more than being one of the best players on the team in the playoffs

Is Stoll on IR as well or just day to day?

Who was he going to win a spot over?

You know, now that you mention it, sometimes I also get the "entitlement vibe" from Toffoli as well. Actually, maybe its not so much an entitlement vibe, more of an "I'm better than you" vibe.. Which is ok, I suppose. Although I can see how it may rub some people the wrong way.

In terms of being a battler, I don't think we should ever expect Toffoli to display a willingness to battle either in front of the net, or in the corners for the puck. That is not his game, and has never been his game, I think. It will be interesting to see what happens with him, however, when teams start to zero in on his offensive zone tendencies. Watching him quite a bit here in Manchester, what he likes to do in the offensive zone becomes quite predictable over time. It will be interesting to see what happens when teams begin to take that away from him, although how difficult that will be is a different question. His shot is lethal, but his skating/work ethic can leave you sometimes wanting more. Will see what happens. The Kings have really liked him from the beginning, however, no disputing that. They gave him a big opportunity from the get-go. I have always viewed him as a player who is like a "specialist." Get him the puck in his spots, and he can make you pay. He has gotten better at creating for others, but that is not his game.

Clearly Toffoli was held back because the Kings hate success.

Nobody is saying that. I'm of the opinion that Toffoli was sent down because he doesn't have to clear waivers and this team is infatuated with grinders and doesn't want to let one go

I literally felt the exact opposite regarding Toffoli's work ethic in Manch this year.

ok how much ice time do you think clifford is getting a game without looking it up? Clifford is not on the ice to score goals. Hes on the ice to hit oppenets and wear them down. He was 5th in the league in hits and belive me hes doing it in not as much ice time as you think he is. :shakehead

I agree completely.

Not only is Toffoli a really great kid but while he was with the 67's I skated and hung out with (and the team) a few times and he was always one of the more well thought of guys out there. I have known TT for a few years and he has zero guile. No sense of entitlement or at least none that I have ever seen and that goes pretty far back.

What I have seen is a kid who has a desperate need and an iron will to prove his detractors wrong. He believes he is ready to play in the NHL and develop his game into being one of the top players in the league.

That's all I have ever seen in him and to me those are really good qualities.

Soooo...when's Carter coming back?

Sooner rather than later, I think, by some clues . Sutter in a post practice comment yesterday said that Carter's injury was something that had been 'nagging' him for awhile the Kings schedule was a good time to address it. You can theorize that between Haloween thru 11/14, the Kings only have 5 games. That would give JC two weeks off to heal.
Also, his GF replied to someone tweeting her about JC, and she used a 'quick recovery' hashtag.

And the 'nagging' word Sutter used might explain a bit why JC had 4 goals in his first4 games and only 1(that shortie with Richie ) since Oct 9. Maybe he's been in pain for awhile and it was getting worse.
