I do wish this Management would be subjected to Toronto media pressure other than the lame tame Buffalo press.
The only thing they seem to be able to is to stir useless rumors they pick out of players post game interviews.

Being a Sabres fan at this point is just like being an Islanders fan was for the past 25 years: completely abused and betrayed by incompetent ownership, management and coaches while nobody in either the local or national media has enough courage or cares enough to shine a light on this deplorable and disgusting situation.

I didn’t realize this team was a playoff team last season and has taken a major step backwards.... oh wait they were the worst team in hockey and have made some really good strides this year. Yadadada lucky 10’game win streak, ya well they still won those 10 games so they deserve some credit.

Eichel, Reinhart and Brendan Lemieux are in the NHL. Guhle and Borgen are a step away and will be NHLers. Asplund isn't far off. Johansson the goalie showed very well when called up to Rochester. Olofsson may make it and then there's Alex Nylander. If 8 of Murray's draft picks make the show that's a pretty good record.
But only 3 are right now.

Yeah, but the year before they made progress than Botts came in and we went down to the bottom again. And now we're back to where we were 2 years ago, so yay?

Good to see that the fanbase is okay with punting year after year and have our franchise player get more and more frustrated.

I bet Jack loves this season without playoffs. Only his 4th in 4 years in Buffalo.

That winning streak with the unsustainable Skinner shooting percentage and the unusual goaltending? That bit that they haven't been able to replicate for the other half+ of the season worth of games? The bit outside of which they are one of the worst teams in the league in the standings based on points per game? Sure... yeah... luck is progress.

So true

Aside from the interesting radio and news articles. It would definitely help make things happen.

Housley would be ripped apart for being a poor coach. By this point, he would have been fired.

Botts would be shredded for doing absolutely f*** all during the season two years running. This season it probably cost us a playoff spot.

Making no NHL moves this season is pretty disappointing because they need help just to stay in the race. Are there really no long-term options out there?

So far nothing safe enough. We seem to see that Botts operates in a pretty milktoast fashion, there is nothing bold about his moves so far that points to someone who is willing to risk anything to his own advantage.

Offseason important for Botterrill.

Don't waste assets at deadline. Sign players who can help us. Michael Ferland comes to mind. Contract expiring, former 5th round pick who has created a niche for himself.

Could help this team on the power play and would have plenty of opportunity with us. Not sure we need to trade for him, but someone who we maybe could target offseason.

A niche he will be vastly overpaid for

It was 2015 that they took a step forward, when they finished 8th last. But that had more to do with adding some actual NHL talent to the roster than an actual step forward in the rebuild. They were still generally playing pretty crappy hockey.

Then in 2016 they took a step back, finished 5th last (and fell 3 spots in the draft because of Vegas and the lottery) and everyone was fired.

They were trending downward and the locker room was a mess when Botterill took over.

You had all those rumors of the team quitting on Bylsma, all the locker room issues, all the stuff about refusing to follow a coaches game plan, and even rumors of Eichel saying he was not willing to sign a long term contract if Bylsma stayed. Things were falling apart.
Go back and watch locker clean out day. Guys were beaten down. You even had Kane talking about how there was no hope going into this offseason like there was in 2015.

2016 is the reason why Murray and Bylsma were fired.

I still think this kind of logic is silly.

Remove any team’s best 10 game stretch and they will be hurting in the standings.

When it is a complete and total outlier compared to the entire rest of the season it isn't.

They still won those games. You can argue they were lucky to win some of those but in recent games they’ve been unlucky not to win (New York, Winnipeg to name a few).

These kinds of things tend to balance out over the course of a season. Over a large sample size your position in the standings is usually indicative of how your team played, unless you were unusually lucky or unlucky with injuries.

Buffalo has one of the lowest points per game standing-wise of any team in the league outside of that stretch.

After 26 games we had the best points percentage and record in the league. In the subsequent 30 games we played like one of the worst teams.

So the reality is they’re somewhere in the middle. Probably a 15-19 team overall.

Except they have improved in all of their underlying numbers this year compared to last year. So they will end up with a lot more points but will go from 26th in shot share up to currently 18th. To me that looks like improvement.

That team two years ago relied on goaltending. They were 24th in shot share. There is a huge difference in performance in these two teams.

You used to use analytical numbers all the time. These past 10 games they have put up some of their best numbers but you just talk about their point pace. Why not talk about how much better they are playing but not getting average goaltending or getting the bounces.
