but Jagr also said the KHL helped extend his career because the game was different and the seasons were not as long.

The reality is Crosby has done more for the Penguins than Jagr.

The late 90s Penguins teams wouldn’t be built around Jagrs offense? He would have to share? There’s only one puck. While Crosby and Malkin have shared it, Jagr demanded it to appease his ego.

He should have gotten the record. His level of play blew Gordie way out of the water when you look at the thins as a whole. A shamethat things turned out this way due to the lock-out and Jagr's years in the KHL.

Im really curious, how do you figure that? I get that Jagr's departure wasnt the greatest. Jagr is the most dominant offensive player outside big 4.

Malkin was a superstar level player, but still he was never a Jagr-level player.

Yeah. Howe is a mortal top 4. And offensively he of course murders any player not named Wayne, Mario or Bobby. But Jagr is still in the top 10 comfortably imo. (And better than Ovechkin and Crosby).

    Meh.

    Doesn't matter.

Gordie Howe played 2186 professional hockey games anyways. No one is beating that.

Howe won Art Ross with an higher separation from the rest of the league than any non Greztky player no ?

Even if you remove Greztky from Mario record. Howe giant longevity can make people underrate is peak, his first 4 Ross in a row were quite the domination:

    1.Gordie Howe* • DET86
    2.Maurice Richard* • MTL66
    3.Max Bentley* • TOR62
    4.Sid Abel* • DET61
20 points, almost 30% above a legend like Richard
    1.Gordie Howe* • DET86
    2.Ted Lindsay* • DET69
    3.Elmer Lach* • MTL65
    4.Don Raleigh • NYR61
    5.Sid Smith • TOR57
    1.Gordie Howe* • DET95
    2.Ted Lindsay* • DET71
    3.Maurice Richard* • MTL61
    4.Alex Delvecchio* • DET59
    Wally Hergesheimer • NYR59
34 points, 50% above the closest non teammate, against that Maurice Richard of all players.
    1.Gordie Howe* • DET81
    2.Maurice Richard* • MTL67
    3.Ted Lindsay* • DET62
    4.Bernie Geoffrion* • MTL54
    5.Bert Olmstead* • MTL52

That is quite something and year's after year's in a row like that.

Has for the question, it is nice for Howe to keep it considering he played so long in a 50 games league, it is really is record to keep possibly for ever.

That is so easy when you play in a 6 team beer league with no talent or parity.

He's had at least one too many gigs however suspect Chia could still use him for those 35 games.

Lol Gordie is better than jagr and it’s not particularly close. He had 100 points as a 40 year old. 40 some points as a 52 year old. Guy is a legend. 6 art rosses. Complete game. Way more consistant and far better than his competition than jagr was. You really don’t know much about gordie do you.

Even though there was no European talent in the league, there were only 6 teams. The talent levels were extremely high and the competition deep. If Howe in his prime, with modern training were in the NHL now, there is no doubt he would be collecting Art Ross trophies every year.

I wouldn't say no talent that's quite the stretch, there was talent in that era, but of course the game has improved as has the skill level and competition as the game has been refined and expanded into a much larger talent pool over the years.

But evolution is to be expected.

OK, look at the goalies back then man. Not saying Howe wasnt great but his play doesnt inspire me ala the Marios and the Jagrs etc....

I think what he meant was objectively speaking, Jagr is a better player than Crosby, hands down more talented, but that doesnt mean he contributed as much as a Penguins player. He's contributed enough though to lay claim to being the second best, otherwise you'd also see players like Kovalev up there(another player more skilled than Crosby but didnt do anything with it)

Ron Francis, Alexi Kovalev, Lemieux, & Straka all played with Jágr during that time frame. So don’t act like Jagr was playing with guys like Pete Lee or Mitch Lamoureux. Jágr was a great player, but Sid absolutely blows him out of the water.

See that’s the thing, I watched both & to me, Sid is far more gifted. He’s a better skater, has better vision, far superior leader. Jágr was a bear to get off the puck, but Sid gets into the dirty areas & is a grinder by nature. Jágr got his points by longevity, but Sid is the better player.

It would have inspired the **** out of you if you lived back then. Doesn’t matter what play inspires you. Mcdavid is better than Gretzky skill for skill but you can’t say he’s better cause Gretz hay day was 30 years ago. Obviously the game evolves. Silly arguement. GH played in the nhl from 1946 to 1980. He was better than jagr and even played longer lol
