He was drafted 11th overall by the Dallas Stars coming off two straight Memorial Cups, what was the projection for Iginla at the time in 1995?

If I recall correctly, he was seen as a very safe prospect that would play in the NHL but obviously not as a 50 goal scorer.

Ha. "hes not likely to be a star"

Gotta love how these pre-draft scouting reports mean so little years later.

  6. Kind of like a 25-25 player maybe a 30 goal scorer in a big year. He was drafted high based on his intangibles of being a leader and having physical play in his arsenal.

Sounds like Landeskog a little :)

  8. I hope not, I don't want baby Iginla in the division.

If you watched Iginla and Doan in Junior you would have thought Doan was going to be the superstar and Iginla more of the solid type player. Doan was a monster in the Memorial cup that year

That's exactly why I don't think it's crazy that Landeskog could have Iginla upside. You just never know. They sure sound similar in their scouting reports. Unfortunately I never watched Jarome when he was a prospect.

Yeah Tkaczuk was labelled a can't miss prospect - even if he didn't score he looked like he'd be a great 3rd liner and leader. The brutal concussion he suffered early on really hurt him I think. But it can't entirely account for how quickly his career spiralled.

Great thread....very interesting to read what they thought of him. More and more I become more cynical with NHL scouts and think they're not that good at their jobs.

To be fair to Buzek, he fell asleep behind the wheel and suffered through a pretty serious car accident a few weeks before the Draft.

Pretty commendable that he was able to work his way back even for a short time as an NHLer and even squeezed out an All Star appearance as the expansion Thrashers' rep.

  16. Sounds like Mark McNeill.

It's pretty impressive what he was able to accomplish after such a serious accident. Even won a World Championship gold medal in 2000 with Czech Republic.

Fair enough. I had forgotten about that incident to be honest - I was definitely a big hockey follower then, though it's been so long it's hard to decipher one incident from the next.

All I remember about Buzek was that he didn't have much of an NHL career.

Iginla then went on to score 79 Goals in 79 Games including the playoff's following his draft year on his way to his second straight memorial cup.

After Darcy Tucker and Shane Doan turned pro, he was given the opportunity to show what he can do, and did just that.

That doesn't prove anything, only that Iginla took his game to the next level after he got drafted. Certainly it's not out of the realm of possibility that Landeskog steps his game up as well this coming year.
