It's at most a difference of 8%. The difference between PA and Florida is about 3% and NY and Florida is about 8.5%.
8% can be a lot. You figure if it's a star making around $7m that's $500,000. Over a 5 year contract, that's an extra $2.5m.

You're losing 5x more to federal income tax than state income tax. People freak out about income tax because Leafs fans just like crying about the Lightning being good, it's not actually a significant difference for a ton of reasons.

I know that the politically correct thing to say is that this trade was a "win win" scenario. But screw that, Florida sucks at talent evaluation and the Pens stole this guy. Amazing.

Nice work JR.

VAN gave up on him first...for Gudbranson lol

So two teams didn't like him.

Florida liked him. They just had a lot of forwards and liked moving Bjugstad more. I don't know about Vancouver, but they clearly liked Gudbranson a lot.

Florida traded a young cost controlled semi skilled player....for draft picks...

So that they could hope to find another young cost controlled semi skilled player? And that shows they liked him?

Hmm.

This has probably been posted, but I liked it.

This season, in Pittsburgh:

Brassard + Sheahan = 89 games, 16g 8a 24p
McCann + Bjugstad = 54 games, 18g 9a 27p

Not a bad trade.

From what I recall, Vancouver liked him. They saw him as the solution to a depth-center issue that was created by losing ... you guessed it, Nick Bonino.

"What do you think about being drafted by Vancouver?!"
"It is what it is"

Kind of a crazy thing to say. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt given he was being interviewed on live team just moments after being drafted. Expected himself to go earlier possibly? TSN had him ranked 16th so 24th isn't exactly late compared to that.
