Lockout drives Bruins ticket prices higher
During the NHL lockout, disgruntled Bruins fans could be heard claiming to give up on the league forever. But now that the labor dispute is over, some supporters are so eager to see Boston’s hockey team back in action that they are paying much more than face value for tickets.

Officially, Bruins ticket sales began on Wednesday. But as soon as the league released its game schedule late on Saturday, hockey-starved fans flocked to the secondary ticket market, where they can buy seats from season ticket holders on such websites as StubHub.com and TicketNetwork.com.

Tickets to see the Bruins, who open the season on Saturday against the New York Rangers at TD Garden, have sold for as much as $639 online — six times their original cost.

A downsized NHL season is about to begin
“We are going to have to react more quickly,’’ said Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli, busy Thursday afternoon tidying up his 23-man roster after a mere five days of training camp. “I generally have been a patient guy. You [normally] have 82 games, or segments within the 82 games to see how things work out.

“I’m just going to have to make those segments smaller or react a little more quickly. That doesn’t mean that at any sign of distress that you go out to make a trade. There are other things you look at first, but I have to tweak my mind-set to this year.’’

Chris Bourque expected to make Bruins roster
Chris Bourque, the eldest son (27 this month) of team icon Ray Bourque, appears to have landed the left wing spot on a line with veterans Chris Kelly and Rich Peverley.

“It has been a great transition for me,’’ said Bourque following the club’s workout at Ristuccia Center. [Kelly and Peverley] both helped me out a lot. They are both always in the right position and they talk a lot out on the ice.

“That really helps out a guy like me, trying to find his way in the NHL. They’ve really been great with me. I couldn’t ask for two better guys.’’

Nathan Horton pumped to get back in game
to say the 27-year-old Horton is hungry to return would be a gross understatement. When the puck drops at 7:10 or so, he is going to be looking to throw around his 6-foot-2, 225-pound body.

“I want to hit and get hit,†he said. “I missed it, being out. You really miss it, so yeah, I want to get physical.â€

.Bruins sip a better Merlot .
“I think it’s fair to say we put a lot of pressure on ourselves and I think it’s also fair to say that we didn’t have a lot of expectation on us two years ago,†said Campbell. “I was a new player, we were a new line put together halfway through the year and we ended up contributing in an important way on important nights. When that happens, you have to follow it up and the expectations rise a little bit and the expectation rose amongst ourselves, amongst the fans, amongst the coaching staff and everybody in the organization.

“I don’t think it’s going to help us to try and live up to what we did two years ago. We just have to play our game. We know what our role is and that’s important.â€

.Patrice Bergeron considered smooth as Selke .
“I don’t think it changes anything because it’s not something I stop and think about, to be honest. Whether I have (the Selke) or not, I want to go out and play the best I can and help the team win. It’s the same approach this year. I don’t see anything different,†said the alternate captain.

Boston Bruins put renewed emphasis on power play.
It would be one thing if they didn’t have any natural-born goal-scorers.

It would be another if they didn’t have enough hard shooters or had a roster filled with pipsqueaks.

None of that applies to the Bruins, which makes the seasons-long problems with their power play so frustrating.

“We have some great shooters on this team,†Milan Lucic said earlier this week, after working on one of the team’s two new-fangled power-play units. “We’ve proven we can score.

“Last year, we were second in the league in goals scored (260). I know a lot of it was5-on-5, but we know we can score when we’re shooting the puck.â€
