Seidenberg is serving as a bit of a mentor to Bruins rookie Dougie Hamilton. The two have been partnered for now.
“He’s a good player, he knows the game,’’ said Seidenberg. “I maybe [give him] a few pointers here and there, but he’s a very good defenseman. He covers a lot of ground. It’s good playing with him. It’s fun to be in that role.’’
Hamilton is appreciative of all the help he has received so far.

NHL apologizes to fans via full-page ad
The NHL has issued a formal apology to fans via a full-page ad in today's Boston Globe.
A simple letter on a mostly white page (there's a silhouette of a crowded arena at the bottom) promises the league will make it up to fans.

Several teams face pressure to win Cup
The New York Rangers made a big push in trading for Rick Nash to improve their chances of winning a championship for the first time since 1994.
‘‘It’s the right time for him to be here with us,’’ Rangers coach John Tortorella said.
On the opposite side of the continent, the Vancouver Canucks can’t wait to resume the franchise’s quest for its first Cup when the lockout-delayed season starts Saturday night at home against Anaheim.
The Chicago Blackhawks and Pittsburgh Penguins are also feeling a sense of urgency to win it all again.

Scrimmage play opens B’s eyes .
WILMINGTON — Coming off Tuesday night’s highly competitive scrimmage against their AHL affiliate, the Bruins are well aware of the work that needs to be put in ahead of Saturday night’s season opener.
“Whoever thought of it, it was a great idea,” winger Milan Lucic said yesterday of a scrimmage won by the pumped-up Providence side, 7-5, before a full house at the Garden. “Now we kind of know where we’re at, instead of that being the first game of the season. You know what you’re kind of good at, and what you’ve got to get a lot better at. It was good.”

Claude Julien makes troops battle
WILMINGTON — In the wake of a rusty, sloppy showing in Tuesday night’s 7-5 preseason loss to Providence at the TD Garden, the Bruins had a fairly short but intense, physical practice yesterday at Ristuccia Arena.
“We ramped it up a little bit,” coach Claude Julien said. “Guys are getting into better shape, so we do a little bit more on the battle side. It’s all a part of hopefully preparing for Saturday (the season opener against the Rangers). We’ve got three days here to prepare. (Yesterday) was a good day to throw (the battle drills) in.”
The Bruins have avoided injuries thus far, but the risk of pulled muscles and various other issues is real.

NHL put on notice: Respect Chris Kelly’s game .
It might be time for NHL observers to expect more from Kelly in terms of statistics. Previously counted on mostly for intangibles — faceoff wins, strong defense, etc. — Kelly erupted last season for career highs in goals (20)

Jay Pandolfo hopes to continue NHL career as a Boston Bruin
“I’m having fun,” he said after Wednesday’s practice. “It’s been a good experience so far. I’m enjoying it.”
Whether Pandolfo signs with the Bruins or not, he has left an imprint on the organization. He played for the Providence Bruins Tuesday night at TD Garden, contributing a goal, an assist, a little advice and some inspiration to a 7-5 victory over their NHL parent.
