Don’t you love when you make a simple statement but then people don’t pay attention and respond with “Are you saying [nothing close to what you were saying]?!?”?

The internet is a magical place.

Magic is not real, no matter what you hear on the internet. I am so sick of some - especially unicorns and leprechauns - trying to push these bullshit agendas.

JvR is doing fine. He's leading the team in scoring chances isn't he? Hockey is a game of repetition, keep firing it and it will go in eventually.

I dunno. Couturier only had 3 points in his first 11 games last season, and I think he kept up that pace for the rest of 18-19 to finish the season with 22.

If he is not scoring he is not doing fine. It's not like JVR does something useful on the ice to help Flyers win games.

Actually, JVR hasn't been a liability defensively, with him on the ice 5x5, 1 GA, 1.32 xGA. xGF% 79.17

You have to skate fast enough to get into the camera angle to be seen backchecking. :sarcasm:

I think JVR should be a healthy scratch. It should be up to AV about whether he's on the ice on game day. Right now it seems that his salary is the only reason why he is still getting ice time.

Once he scores we will see him turn to a full on banger, then he will go into another slump... rinse and repeat.

1-dimensional snipers are either hot or cold. Once theyre hot and scoring we look at them like elite players. Once they’re cold we look at them like they’re detriments.

JVR has been getting a ton of shots on net. He’ll turn the corner soon. Same should be said for a bunch of our top tier forwards. The three that are carrying this team are Lindblom, TK, and Couts.

    wtf are you talking about?

His shooting % is 0%. For his career it's 11.7

For the 35 shots this year, he "should" have 4 goals right now. His PDO is 98.9% the lowest of his career. He has been unlucky and the goals are going to come if he keeps doing what he is doing.

Scoring is stochastic, making plays is the key observable.

It's fun to make fun of JVR, but he became a solid two way forward in Toronto, paired with Bozak, and has played well this year despite shifting centers.
The guy struggling isn't JVR, who'll get his goals, but Voracek, who seems lost under AV's scheme.

I agree a very useful asset....at the trade deadline. JVR's flaws are many. You just go to stats every time. That's why people outside of this fiefdom disagree with you a lot which is the beauty of it all as you say. JVR is a lazy hockey player always has been. He will get traded and end up being that guy that moves team to team putting up hollow goal #'s. You have to limit his ice time or he will just kill you defensively. In Toronto, he was a third line player who put up great #'s for them....then bye-bye. Never a thought of signing him because he is not even near top-tier talent. If Frost, Farabee or other kids take off sooner rather than later than all JVR is wasted cap space. He is 9th in 5v5 goals and he is nowhere near a top tier forward: what does that say to you? That stats are not the end-all.

Slowness and laziness. JVR and Voracek on the same line was dreadful. One tried too much and turnovers the puck and the other stop skating on contact.

I think it’s wildly disingenuous to say Toronto didn’t give a thought to signing him, especially because of his talent level. It’s a whole different narrative letting him walk when you have the embarrassment of riches at forward they do.

There is absolutely a niche on most teams—including the flyers—for wingers who put up goals at the rate he has historically done so. In addition, and I cannot believe I’m agreeing with @deadhead, he has not had a deleterious impact on opponent scoring this year either. If and when we have a healthy Patrick and frost and farabee are up to stay, then jvr becomes replaceable. But not before.

What's the overlap on people bitching about JVR doing nothing and "this team needs a pure sniper" ?
