Zone starts - Gardiner (by a lot)
Comp - Gardiner (by a little)
rel.CF% - Barrie (by a little)
rel.CA/60 - Gardiner (by a lot)
rel.xGF% - Gardiner (Not close, but xGF is pretty noisy when it comes to defenseman)
5v5 points - Gardiner (by a little)
PP - Barrie (by a lot)

Two of the best 2nd pairing defenseman in hockey. I didn't realize how good Barrie is and how much better he is offensively than Gards, but he really lags behind defensively. I think Gardiner has a slight (but decisive) edge over him.

Im taking Barrie, he had a monster year last year and would form a lethal pp combo with Mcdavid on my team.

Edit: didnt read the question right, but Im still taking Barrie as the better player

5v5 points - Gardiner (by a little)

Since both of them became regular NHLers in 2013-14:

Barrie 146 even strength points in 364 games.
Gardiner 120 even strength points in 402 games.

Those were last year alone. Using their entire careers is not really indicative of "Who's better?", but sure if you want to talk about "best career so far" Barrie has the lead in 5v5 points lol.

Furthest I'd go back is 2 years (for this question), and Gardiner still has the lead in pure 5v5 points, but Barrie has 5v5 P1 and a slight lead (1.06 - 1.09) in 5v5 P60.

As I said, they're pretty close 5v5 offense but Barrie has PP offense by far. Defense though? It's not close in Gardiners favour.

Leafs fan saying Barrie, but the gap isn't big. Similar types of players - very good 2nd pairing dmen with high offensive talent, Barrie more offensively talented than Gardiner and Gardiner more rounded than Barrie

last 2yrs, regular season and playoffs

Jake (28): 177gms, ES 19:07 (B qc), 1.10p/60, .71p1/60, 51.1cf% (+0.8), 51.9xgf% (+1.4) / PP 2:17, 4.16p60, 1.63p160
Tyson (27): 148gms, ES 18:43 (B qc), 1.13p/60, .91p1/60, 47.3cf% (+0.1), 44.3xgf% (-0.8) / PP 3:21, 5.21p/60, 2.67p1/60

Really close. Barrie is a bit better offensively, while Jake is the better possession player.

@Cousin Eddie , I'm sure this is in response to the trade thread. Barrie is going to win this and he should, but I think you'll get a better result in terms of relevance to the argument in that thread if you polled how big the gap between them is rather than just which is better

I don't like either, but in order to see the results I picked Gardiner because he can at least stay healthy.

That's the problem with only using a simple chart from one year.

Last year was an anomaly for Barrie. He scored more PP points than he usually does and fewer ES points than he usually does.

A larger sample size is almost always preferable over a smaller one. I'll stick to the five year sample over the one year sample.

I don’t get this thread
I’m no means a TB4 fan at all but he’s a much better player than Gardiner

Hard to say. Barrie is better offensively and Gardiner is better defensively. Pretty much a toss-up, both #3 guys on a good team.

Its a reaction to a trade thread where more than a couple Leafs fans said they were just as good or Gardiner was better

Barrie is the clearly better individual offensive creator, and considering neither is a defensive stalwart, I think that's a lot more valuable.
