I'm an optimist but I have zero faith that Evans will be anything of note in the NHL. He seems to skinny, not a good enough skater and not really good enough at much else to make him a top 9. Would love to be wrong.

ya cause being " skinny'' at 21 years old is insurmountable and impossible to improve.

On a note without sarcasm, weight and skating are probably the 2 easiest part of a player to improve if he has the mind for it, hell he could gain 10/13 lbs of pure muscle from this summer to early October. And skating only takes 2-3 month of intense power skating, just look at Pavelski, went from 7th round because of how slow he was to a 70p guy in the NHL because of the intense power skating and dedicated work he put during the summers.

Any parallels in term of style of play and developpement curve to be made with Tyler Bozak? Both are centreman on a similar frame (6'0 and 190 lbs) coming off 4 years off the american colleges, highly touted when they signed their first professionnal contracts. I dont know how Bozak league (WCHA) compares to Evans's but their productions are similar.

Bozak started the year in the AHL, got 1 game in october, then came by in january to play full time with the Leafs.

If Evans can follow a similar path, I'd be extremely pleased

I must have seen him play 20 times in the past 4 years and I'm genuinely confident he'll at the very least be a good AHL pro. His smarts alone will carry him to that point, I've literally never seen him make 2 downright stupid plays in the same game, in all three zones. He's got a very good head for the game. His other limitations (Only average skating at best, skinny frame, etc.) might hurt him in the long run but a smart player will always find a place.

Also on a good note, Even keeps getting better and better and better every time we see him play. I have a feeling, and in general, those hard working player tend to have a bright NHL career.

He's got good hockey sense which attributes to his high skill playmaking abilities. His shot is much better than people give him credit for. Skating is average and needs to get more physically involved in puck battles. Good thing is he can improve on his skating and physicality. You can't really improve on your hockey IQ....

they don't compare well, Bozak only played 2 years in the NCAA, and he was a 21 year old Freshman whereas Evans was 18. Bozak played at Denver, a bigger/better program but both were well coached teams in the toughest conferences (Evans played in the HE and Big 10 conferences, Bozak what is now the NCHC, so all 3 are the very best conferences)

With Evans it's just a matter of speed, strength, skating, and how much it impacts him.

No, its impossible to gain 13 pounds of pure muscle in a few months.

In a year ? Sure, tough to do as an ecto though. Unless you GOMAD or something.
I don't even think it's that tough, gotta remember you got your newbie gains plus just hammering food and thickening out as you mature. We're not talking about a jacked 5'10" 30 year old who weighs 195 getting to 210 in a year.

ETA f*** I thought this was the Kotkaniemi thread. But still.

TBH, I went from 205 to 220 in 6 months (Im fat AF now though )
When I was in my late teens I went from 145 to 175 in about a year and a half though I grew a bit too. When you're young you can just add weight just thickening out when you're a scrawny MF. I also went from about 175 to 205 in about a year though that was going from a lean and dry look to being a beefy vegan lol

Tbh, theres already a lot of goalie prospect in the Habs pool , better ones.

Things can go fast. You might move Lindgren. McNiven might not develop as scheduled. And then you do have Primeau. So at one point, you might have LIndgren up with the big team...and just Primeau as a real top option. It's not that much.

I gained at least a solid 20 pounds of muscle (40 pounds) through puberty and 4L of milk on GOMAD in a year. Seems possible. The younger the are the more possible it is though, Evans isn't 17-18.

Still wondering what the heck this trade was all about. The only reason is that Hawkey had told the Habs that he was not going to sign with them like ever.

really? I thought that was a solid return for Hawkey. He's pretty buried in our org, surely he knew that.
