I'm fine with giving JDB another shot. I am assuming his value is too low to be part of something useful in a trade for a big piece. If that's the case then him petering out for another year won't be that huge of a deal in terms of value. If he rebounds and decides he wants to play big boy hockey then the Bs have a darn good 3rd liner with scoring ability, as well as a more useful trade piece if they want to go that direction. Nothing but the best of luck to Jake. Seems like a good kid who just needs to get his crap together. The talent is obviously there.

Tangentially related to JDB if he is going to be the 3LW, Haula and Nosek at the C's 3/4, I guess Lazar/Wagner battle it out for 4 RW, Foligno to 3RW, and that leaves Freddie at 4LW? Interesting bottom 6 options now. As for Jake, well, I guess what else are they going to do if they can't get any takers in a trade that gives some sort of value back? I also expect a pretty short leash for him and given that they have not as yet moved him, if he still sucks, his value probably can't get much worse.

I guess it's also worth keeping in mind that Cassidy is just speculating based on what his available personnel are. JDB could still be on the move before the season starts.

Good to hear. Seems like They're giving him a chance to bounce back. Excited to see how he does.
More proof Cassidy isn't cut out to be a coach anywhere, especially the NHL. That is almost 4 million dollars in cap space wasted on a useless player.

I like JDB. I see the logic in criticisms as well, however, his situation seems to be similar to Reilly Smith when he was here. He has one bad season, a shortened season at that, and suddenly his bags are packed for him because he is on a mid-level contract (3.6 million cap hit). Sweeney just paid Nick Foligno more, 3.9 million dollars, and how many goals has he scored over the last few seasons? I know, I know he brings "other things" like penalty minutes and a hand full of assists... Jake had 2 solid season 2018-2019 (29 gls) and 2019-2020 (19 gls in 65 games). I fear Sweeney will dump him off for a local flash in the pan (see Jimmy Hayes) and we will watch JDB continue to be a 20 goal player for the majority of his career. He is literally the only thing we have from that horrific draft class of any value.

Or, hear me out here. It DOES? Whether he's here on another team. What will some of you say then? Will you eat your crow? We'll see. I'm excited about this season anyways. Kid is going to rebound.
Ill be the first one to eat crow if he turns it around. I am suspicious because he lacks effort, all the time. I would be ok with him turning it around if I saw him show some compete. We will see I guess.

That's fair. I hope he does. For the teams sake. For himself. For this boards sanity.

He's had more than just 1 bad season. His decline started in 2019-20.

Feb 2020: 2-2-4, -4 in 14 games
Mar 2020: 1-0-1 in 4 games
2020 playoffs: 4-0-4, -3 in 14 games

In addition, even when he was going good he has always struggled with consistency in results and effort. Difference is now he doesn't have the hot streaks to mask the cold ones

Correct. I am no Cassidy fan. I think he is the weakest link on the team but the GM gives the coach players. Right now he is the 3rd best LW on the team.
No, no he isn't. Foligno, Haula and Nosek are all better, all can play left wing. Frederic had 4 goals in 42 games and plays with a pulse, JDB had 5 in 41 averaging 3 minutes ice time more a night.

Your number three LW should not have to scratched repeatedly due to indifferent and ineffective play. As much trouble as this team looks to be in next year (unless they are playing for a lottery pick) JDB getting third line minutes, never mind even being on the team, is not a good sign.
Here is a list of players making 500k up and down from JDB's caphit, not many I wouldn't choose over him. Grizz and JDB make over 7.2m between them, could get a number 2 D or number 2 center for that money.
