Hahahaha when Jake Bean is worth a potential 1C. That’s embarrassing

Reading comprehension isn't your strong suit is it? Canes need elite forward talent, already have more than enough middle 6 pieces. Canes fans are quite aware Bean won't get that type of return, which is why there's no real interest in trading him. It's not that hard.

Does Carolina have any reason to trade Bean for fair value? no, thus the overpayment. Trades happen, and are usually more or less even like you said, because teams have reasons to trade players: TDL, UFA's to be, older players to make room for prospects etc.

sometimes its just a prospect for prospect swap to balance the depth charts. not exactly unheard of

I wouldnt mind a Kap-Bean swap. Leafs get a D prospect they hope can be a top 4 d one day, canes get one of the fastest guys in the league, a potential fit on a super finn line with TT and Aho

Example of what Carolina is looking at: Bean, Gauthier, Rask for Duchene.

OTT sell and get a young replacement center and 2 recent 1sts for Duchene, Carolina gets a center. ***This is not taking Otts needs into acct b/c I don't know what they are. Just making an example of what Carolina would hope to accomplish in a Bean trade.

Or: Bean for Malcom Subban + 3rd // Bean for Illya Samsonov

Ottawa ABSOLUTELY needs to get back a 1st in a Duchene deal. They gave up Turris (signifcantly better than Rask), Bowers (= to Gauthier), a 1st, and a 3rd

if you factor in what they would have got had they just flipped Turris to Nashville, they felt Duchene was worth

Girard
Kamenev
Bowers
1st (likely lotto pick)
2nd
3rd

compare that to Rask,Bean,Gauthier and its an absolute mess, especially if you consider rask is basically a dump

sure, prospect-for-prospect swaps happen from time to time. but something that happens far, far more often? no trade at all.

there's zero pressing incentive for Carolina to trade Bean in a prospect for prospect type deal. they've got decent middle-6ers-to-be coming out of their ears. a solid, maybe even over-ripe defense corps in Charlotte. pretty much every organizational goalie slot has an appropriate-level talent occupying it. "prospects on the cusp of the NHL" is arguably the most plentiful organizational resource in Carolina.

if they're moving a chip like Bean, they're looking to upgrade the NHL roster immediately. all calls are welcome on that front.
