That 61-62 season was Plante's first year without Doug Harvey, who had been traded in the off-season. For those who were around back then, did the media or fans think Montreal would drop in the standings? Did the fact that they didn't drop play a role in Plante winning the Hart? For example, if Plante had the same success that season, but with Harvey, would he have still won the Hart?

I wasn't around then, but would guess that Plante being so stellar without Harvey played a role in that Hart, as did Beliveau missing 27 games and H. Richard 17.
Interesting that the man Harvey was traded for, Lou Fontinato led the league in +/-. Given that Harvey was gone and Beliveau and Richard missed such significant time, it seems Toe Blake may have had his finest year as a coach, getting superb yrs. out of Backstrom, Provost, Gilles Tremblay, Bill Hicke. Habs were 1st in GA with Plante's Hart season, but also 1st in GF in spite of missing their two HoF centers for big chunks of the season.

Provide a link. The Hasek games do not balance. 10 GP but 9 decisions. Also there is a difference between teams playing back-to-back and a goalie playing back-to-back.

Plante, 22 of 25 were on the road after a home game mainly Sunday night. 3 back to back road games. No back to back home games.

Going by Hasek's game log: NHL.com - Stats the 10 GP checks out, as the "0 days rest" games were preceded by games Hasek played in the night before. The missing decision is from Hasek's April 19 game vs Ottawa where he was pulled after the 1st and the eventual GWG was scored on Shields in the second period.

Perhaps that creates an appropriate ND. Still have to replace one T with a W.

No it does not. Specifically the complete data shows that Plante played 5 more strings of back to back games than any other goalie. Hall was second with 20 to Plante's 25.

Hasek's simply does not balance. At best 5-2-2. If we include a partial against Vancouver, 6-2-2.

Here's Plante's 1962 Game Log. The 0 days rest count looks accurate for him too.

Has Lindy Ruff been known to ride goaltenders this hard since his first few seasons (1997-98 being his NHL debut)? Hasek played 52 of Buffalo’s first 55 the following season before injury, and 9 of the first 11 and 26 of the final 31 book-ending the injury in the season after that. Seemed like he throttled back in 2000-01, and then ran heavy with Biron for a year-and-a-half until Biron started losing.

Curious if anyone had insight.

So much beautiful dark green after November. So, so much.

Even that Washington series loss was a great effort by Hasek.

I need to get off my butt and work my back to Plante's season (although it's amazing how priorities change upon becoming a parent - right now, I'm proud that I'm able to keep the Twitter feed updated while getting 2017-18 data entered for a league or two per week).

I can’t even imagine what you go through. I’ve been meaning to run charts for just like 20 or so players’ careers, and it’s just felt impossible with our schedule this year. Sure wish the NHL released this data, like, 5 years ago when I had more free time.

It's one of those things that seems like a good idea when it's 1994 and there's literally no hockey data on the internet, and then you look up 24 years later and you're still doing it.

It's still worth it for the stories, though (which is also why I still verify everything through multiple news accounts even when the NHL now publishes this stuff). This is still my favorite one I've found (and haven't seen mentioned much elsewhere) about Ken Dryden:

On December 13, 1972, Dryden was forced to miss a game against the California Golden Seals due to a missing pair of pants. From the Montreal Gazette story: "[Dryden] draped the pants over the back of a chair near a sliding glass door in his fourth-floor room at the Jack Tar Hotel. He left the door open for air while he slept. The door faced a patio. In the morning the pants were gone. Gone too were two pairs of contact lenses without which Dryden does not dare face NHL shooters. Also in the stolen pants was $200 in cash, his credit cards and driver's license. When he glanced at the chair as he woke up, Dryden said he had to think twice. "Surely I must have taken off my pants last night!". Dryden's optometrist in Montreal has been contacted and he will send two sets of contact lenses to Vancouver, B.C., prior to Friday night when the Canadiens meet the Canucks. Meanwhile, Dryden is wearing glasses. Dryden found cover in a snug pair of pants borrowed from the shorter Bob Murdoch, and said he was robbed in a similar fashion in Barcelona "a couple of years ago.""
But I digress. My intent is still to compile a directory of goaltender injuries over the years, and also to maybe get a book out of this someday.

Rookie and young coaches without sufficient oversight

Also Buffalo had a quirky schedule the first two months of 1997-98. No back to back games.

Are the "Days Rest" pages on NHL.com accurate? According to them, in the second half of back-to-backs (games with 0 days rest):

GPWLTSVSASV%GAA
Plante2511867247959112.84
Hasek107112882999631.17
[TBODY] [/TBODY]

So Plante has 25 back-to-backs, and only 6 games with 4+ days of rest, while Hasek has only 10 back-to-backs, and 22 games on 4+ days of rest. If my count is correct, Hasek has 119 days of rest vs 93 days for Plante.

Depends if the team or league season is used. Difference of 23 to 26 days

How did Fontinato lead the league in plus/minus? Trying to wrap my head around that. Was he actually that good a defenseman?
