Hot Take: After Eichel is traded before his NMC kicks in (2022-23), the narrative will be he was more of a curse than a blessing. Bylsma & Murray will be hailed as the future builders of a dynasty cut down by a spoiled super star. Bad personnel moves will be picked apart with an inference made that they were done to please Jack. The failure to make the playoffs in 12 years will be blamed on trying to build the team to make Eichel happy. On the day of the big trade, the local media will describe it as another Lindros trade guaranteed to land the cup in Buffalo. But a late first round pick, a 43 year old Joe Thornton, and Thomas Hertl won't be enough to get it done.

So, The Athletic came out with their "Top 100 NHL Players" list in the form of tiers. It takes into account a lot of advanced stats to make their selections. Auston Matthews in Tier 1A - the MVP tier, while Eichel is in Tier 2A of being a franchise player.

Hmmm.

Rasmus Dahlin is also nowhere on this list, yet Makar and Heiskanen are considered franchise players under Tier 2B. Interesting.

The second the sabres become a playoff time (if that ever happens), our players will receive a lot more attention in lists like this.

Eichel should be at minimum on par with Matthews. Dahlin still is not in the same weight class as Makar/Heiskanen. Onto another shortened year of Dahlin potential talk.

I take the annual Pro Wrestling Insider Top 500 Wrestlers list more seriously than any list put together by that guy.

This is round two of the Lidstrom discussion. For the beginning of his career, he got overshadowed by flash (Gonchar, Leetch, Niedermeyer, MacInnis, Coffey) and bang (Pronger, Blake, Jovanovski, Chelios) and Bourque. He didn't win his first Norris until his 10th season.

No flash, no smash. Just quietly effective and efficient play. There's not a single defenseman from his era that I'd take over Lidstrom.

Makar is explosive (Coffey), Heiskanen is fast (Niedermeyer), and Quinn is dynamic (Leetch). But it'll be Dahlin (Lidstrom) who will be the best.
