so if im understanding this right, he originally had a 5 year 125 mil offer and he got a 5 year 110 mil offer?

so if he rakes he'll opt out and get a better deal than those last 3 years would have provided, if he doesn't he still got a nice 9 figure deal

I actually really like this for Boston. Even if it does last the full five years.

I imagine he won't be a full-time DH and they'll rotate. But it should help Martinez, who is a bit fragile and is not exactly a defensive wizard. But he'll be fine when required to play in the field. After all, this is the same franchise that had Manny Ramirez in LF.

With the Blue Jays window shut, it's back to Boston and New York duking it out for a division title and wild card play-in bid.

So all the drama a couple weeks ago of JD whining about the Red Sox in public was just so he could get an extra $2 million a year? Guess it worked but he still didn't get what he and his agent thought he was going to before the offseason.
