The Capitals weren't defending champions in 2019-20 who returned the exact same roster (with exception of Maroon). In fact there were very few expectations for the Capitals in the bubble based on their 2nd half dropoff.

In comparison St Louis was one of the hottest teams before the shutdown. It is natural to believe a team like that is loaded for postseason success esp with the way Binnington played before the shutdown.

The fact that they lost to Vancouver is puzzling.
