With what kind of money? If they want to keep russia players in russia then they have to pay the players a whole lot more and mean a whole lot more.
All who want to play in the NHL or other leagues for "a whole lot more money" are free to do it after thier contracts with KHL clubs expire. That's as simple as that. Nobdoy is holding them in the KHL against their will.

Right. so the idea that KHL wants to be the NHL is wishful thinking.

What are you talking about?
This situation is primarily about the KHL freeing itself from the constraints of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation and IIHF.

The KHL is aiming to be like the NHL in that the NHL is a separate entity from USA Hockey/Hockey Canada and not beholden to the IIHF.

Outside the IIHF the KHL can't really do anything if someone under contract decides to leave either. It's merely up to the NHL and other relevant leagues to decide whether they wish to consider KHL contracts worth more than the paper they're printed on. For example Michkov could come over tomorrow if the NHL would be willing to receive him.
