There you have it folks. Oiler fans still happy w. Lucic and dont want to get rid of him even for just an extra 2nd rnd pick. They'd rather just keep the 2nd round pick and put their trust on their very successful scouts and player development team.

Yeah, they’re wrong and “Dropbears88” from HFBoards is completely right... the situation is just that black and white.

Not really because its out of the teams control. If Lucic doesn't waive your stuck exposing a better player than him.

With the ED looming, I'd have to think that would end any interest in Lucic from any team. Unless they are trading back a contract with the same problem.

We are talking about Seattle. Not any other team and we need to get back on target.

Erickson may have one year less but he is 3 years older and only scored 9 more pts.

Oiler fans know Lucic is going nowhere

Lucic's NMC and the expansion draft kills any chance of him being traded. I think even the dumbest current GMs have learned from Anaheims mistake with Bieksa

If Oilers dont want to take back a bad salary in trade with Lucic then they are most definitely attaching that 8th OA pick or next yrs 1st rnd pick or someone like RNH

Have mention this trade for 6 month now! Nucks fans have want to get rid of Loui for a couple of years now! Lucic is really a good fit for the nucks(when they also get rid of loui), they need one with some respect out there to protect their young talent. The Nucks team doesnt going anywhere for a long time so the extra year arent hurting them.

Oilers expected top six duty from Lucic but he arent that player anymore but he will be a useful bottom six for the Nucks + the leadership and protection he give for a young team with no toughness.

It will be a player vs player trade, Oiler with Chia gone will not throw any assets to trade Lucic for a similar contract, perhaps they take a chance on Loui, that he can hold him self in a top 6 position and a change of scenery!

Its more a win trade for the Nucks to get Lucic because you get other aspect then points out of him, for Oilers its a bit of a gambling with Loui, it doesnt hurt us losing Lucic either because we have toughness enough in the team. Kass, Nurse etc.

Could be a win win trade, anyway no one losing anything either!
No way there isn't an add if we take on Lucic for LE. LE looked solid on a line with Pearson and Horvat. He has less term and money left on his contract and may be movable to a cap floor team in the future as more of the contract gets paid in bonuses. Lucic contract is much worse.

I agree tho it sounds like Lucic really wants out of Edmonton asap . Edmomton management will do whatever it takes to get him out of the dressing room. You dont want that toxicity to spread to McDavid and Drai if it hasn't already.

There will 100% be an add to Lucic. You’re setting yourself up for disappointment if you think otherwise.

If there a trade to be made here, there will be no add from the Oilers, its a equal bad contract for a older player who are on decline.

On the other hand i think it would be a good trade for the Nucks because there are a fit there nursing the kids and bring some leadership to the room.

For Oilers it would only be a gamble, doesnt help our cap situation! I rather pay off someone to take Lucic with picks to get capspace!

We dont go anywhere in at least 2 seasons, must clear up the mess, so Lucic will probably go nowhere if it hurts to much!

Pretty funny how Erickson and his bad contract is being over valued. His wheels have fallen off and he is no better than Lucic. At least Lucic can still hit

Nobody is over valuing Eriksson. He would just cost about 6 million less and 1 yr more of flexavility which for a team like the Oilers who has a star like McDavid being close to fed up, would be huge .

Eriksson also isnt the one going on radio stations pretty much begging for him to get him out of Vancouver unlike Lucic which is what this thread is about.

That's a common misconception that is not quite true. There is only one scenario in which a NMC or NTC guaranteed inherently can disappear when a player is traded, and that is if they are traded before their clause becomes active. For instance, when Subban was traded by Montreal his NTC was not set to kick in on his new contract until July 1st. Nashville thus had the option of unilaterally not honouring the NTC for the remainder of the contract (and they chose not to), voiding its existence.

However, Lucic's NMC is very much active right now. Which means the only way that NMC disappears is if he additionally explicitly agrees to get rid of it. The Canucks can say that Lucic has to agree to also get rid of the NMC from the remainder of the contract before they trade for him, and they can refuse to sign an agreement that they, the Canucks, will recognize the NMC, but if the Canucks don't agree to maintain the NMC in the contract Lucic has the right to simply refuse to be traded at that point. Basically, Lucic gets final say on if his NMC disappears or not, on top of choosing where he can be traded. Capfriendly mentions it here here. But his clause doesn't just inherently disappear if he's traded.
Oh damn I never realized that Subban no longer had it. Interesting, I wonder how many times thats ever happened.

The only reason Eriksson has less negative value than Lucic is because of Lucic's 4th year. Both players are about equal, but Lucic may even have an edge due to physicality. The NMC is a non-issue as Lucic would be told he's getting bought out (and leaving money on the table) if he were to use a Seattle slot. He will very likely waive his NMC for Seattle as there's no chance they take him, and he knows that.

With that said, the plus coming from Edmonton should be the equivalent to whatever it would cost to unload Lucic with 1yr left in 2022. IMO that is about a 2nd or 3rd round pick. Certainly not a 1st or anything close to that.

Canucks would have 0 interest in Lucic like every other other NHL team unless there was an incentive involved.

They are also in a different cycle than the Oil. They dont have a cap crunch or in a desperate need to make the playoffs now because there is an absolute threat that their franchise player is fed up.

The Canucks can afford to keep Eriksson for 3 more years and not be competitive. Can the Oilers afford to keep Lucic for 4 more yrs and not be competitive ?

Yep that sounds reasonable

Also why are people bringing up how old they are ?

Are they implying that Eriksson still has more room to regress ? Lol both these players are at rock bottom. There isnt getting much lower than where they are now and they certainly arent going to produce more or get better.

Lucic might be 31 yrs old but this dude has been crashing and banging since he was 15. His body has taken an absolute beating , he may as well be 50.

Age isnt a factor..length of contract is

Protect their young guns should be in their intrest, and Nucks was in on Lucic but he choosed oilers!

With that said Lucic is a hard contract to move, but take on a equal bad contract doesnt help us , still cap strapped!

So youd rather move Lucic by adding a 1st rnd pick or top prospects?

Assuming theres a team out there willing to accept that for Lucic

Lucic can waive it in the expansion draft..regardless of Seattle takes him. Does not mean they will. So you are arguing from a week point of view there. He wants Vancouver and Seattle is closer to Vancouver than edmonton

Even if Lucic did agree to waive his NMC. We aren't that desperate to get out of Loui's contract. There is literally no value in the Canucks swapping with the Oilers unless they get something out of it.

Erickson is as bad as lucic and contract is as bad. Milan is younget

What? Lucic’s is a year longer and has a full NMC for the duration of the contract.

The fact that he’s younger doesn’t mean he is better.

Again you want us to take the worse player on a clearly worse contract just for funsies? What in the world is the incentive for Van here?

I can assume you that we dont give up any assets to take on Loui Eriksson and his equal bad contract!

McD likes Lucic and Luc prevent other teams to face wash him every shift! that happened with Hall, Rnh and Ebs before!
So i rather keep him or retain a bit , every team has at least one bad contract. The cap going up in a hurry and the prospect pool are decent.

I wouldnt give up our future for a short boost, its like take a dump in the pants, its warm and cousy for a moment!
