Had instrument aided soft tissue manipulation today, or scraping as it's sometimes called. Painful. But my hip flexor has more mobility today than anytime in the past year.

Going to start the first steps of starting to get some smart integration into my house, when I'm off on Wednesday. I ordered the smart components that I will be setting up today and they'll arrive on Tuesday.

It'll be very hard to resist the urge to set it up when I get home Tuesday night around 10:30pm. I'm very excited to see what they can do and what else I can eventually do.

Well now... anti-vertigo meds are kicking it old school in my head. In the last two weeks I've been perpetually experiencing vertigo. They don't know if it is concussion related. Good times.

In other news, the wife and I are splitting, which a few of you already knew and some may have suspected. 20 years and done. I don't think either of us get a watch or a plaque or anything.

So, my son's bantam team has a new coaching challenge this season.

We recently had a kid added to the team that can barely skate and has no idea how to play the game.

As a staff, we are concerned about his physical health (they can check now at bantam) and his emotional health (lots of other kids are really frustrated because he is a drill killer in practice and when he was on the ice yesterday in their first game it was like playing shorthanded. We are worried about what the kids could say one day if the frustration explodes).

We can keep him safe in practice. I'm just really worried about what could happen if he ever gets the puck on his stick. If the wrong kid is in the area, he could get seriously injured.

My son yard sale'd a kid at center ice yesterday. I keep thinking about what would happen if that were the new kid getting hit like that...

We have a ton of kids like that. We control how our house league works; USA Hockey and the local hockey association controls how travel teams work. We slot house kids according to skill level and travel kids by birth year. My son is a 2010 but made the travel squirt team, but can't play. So he practices with the team in addition to ADM practices. We have a few pee wees that didn't make the travel team and aren't at PW level yet, so we play them with the house squirts. Same with out bantams, we play them with our house pee wees.

He has been practicing with a younger team to get him more ice time.

But, the rec/house league we play in wouldn't allow him to play in the Pee Wee division because he is too old.

So I assume he's ~13yo? What's his size compared to the Pee Wees? I would hope the coaching staff for both levels can appeal to the rec/house league for an exception to be made? A compromise may be to do half-season with pee-wee (which I assume remains no checking) then jump up to bantam (which I assume still allows checking)?

He's not going to have a good developmental experience playing that far above his skill level. And the house league association is likely going to lose him (and future situations like his) as boys will decide to sit out, or parents will remove their kids. Loss of participants and $ to the league / house.

I've posted before I didn't play organized hockey, but many of my friends, classmates, and/or friends siblings did, even through Junior, College, 1 went to Sweden for pro, etc. But, I am familiar with the age/skill thing. I skipped a grade, and was therefore smaller and less experienced / skilled in any/all sports until I grew to average size ~sophomore year (turned 15 midway through that year).

I am assuming he is a 2005 birthdate.

Bantam this year is 05 & 04.

Our association is trying to do the best we can. I don't know what all the appeals were, I just know that the league we play in wouldn't allow him to play Pee Wee.

And he is a small kid. Given where he is skill-wise and size-wise, I doubt anyone would guess that he wasn't a 06 or 07 birthdate if he played on the Pee Wee team.

His dad was surprised that he played as much as he did in our first game. But, that was because the game wasn't too physical. My son threw a couple of big checks and one of our D got caught carrying the puck. But, it wasn't too bad, overall.

I just had a HR person from a top 3 engineering firm in Canada reach out to me on LinkedIn and proceed to do a phone interview, the position is located at their brand new Canadian headcourters. I’m not sure if I’d actually take it, but I’m pretty excited right now.

I’ve got a follow up with a specialist tomorrow for my post concussion syndrome. It’s pretty much just a nagging headache at this point, but better to play it safe.

Also, I had a crazy entertaining dream last night. I’d never dreamed in cartoon before, but it was basically an episode of Archer, but Sterling has all the crazyass gear that Rico uses in Just Cause 3. So Archer was using the grappling hook and wingsuit to fly along a highway, while shooting land mines to clear a path for Lana, who was in a Jeep, making quips while he was doing it.

Can I blame that dream on the concussion?
