With Bettman, Parros and DoPS not willing to cut dirty play out of the league, I feel it is time to once again start having enforcers. It is not only about the last incident, but DoPS have been really bad for a long time. If I owned a team, I wouldnt want my stars to be hurt. If I was a coach I would want a guy who stands up for my guys and is actually feared by other teams on my bench. Thoughts?

There’s nothing stopping a team from having an enforcer today. Many times, they are slow and bad hockey players, so teams choose not to. I doubt many teams change that approach

I agree but I don’t think it’ll happen. Dressing enforcers do more harm to the team than good. It’s not like every team has a Wilson in their lineup. What Wilson did was gross. I can’t help but think that if Wilson did that to a Canadian superstar like Crosby or McDavid, he’d be suspended.

DoPS is like Court IRL. It is utterly disgusting that the outcome of a case depends on who the victim is. As I said earlier in another thread - It`s like a civilian can go kill homeless ppl freely, but if he kills a CEO of a big company he gets death-penalty. This is absolutely sickening and is like something from the middle-ages...

It will not work. I don't think refs, who came up under the instigator rule, have any patience for dedicated enforcers.

Enforcers take away from a team's skill. The difference between the cup and elimination is often a goal or two, a goal or two that an enforcer ain't scoring for you.

I’m confused. Is there a rule against signing an enforcer?

When did enforcers ever protect star players? They mostly just fought each other since no reputable player would drop the gloves with them. The rest of the time they were a huge waste of space in the lineup.

In fact, I would say it was more common for the enforcers to be the ones injuring star players in the first place because they were always running around trying to justify their spot in the lineup.

    Enforcers aren't the answer.

It's having a DoPS with an actual clue and enough backbone.

Yep, the ugliest incidents came in the days of enforcers. It’s always been a flawed faulty argument, guys like Wilson just don’t care.

What will end up happening is a player once again using their stick as a weapon, or someone will be seriously injured on one of these cheap shots. The league does nothing to protect its players, and it’s damned embarrassing.

Damn, is that all it took to set the league back 15 years?

Get an enforcer who can play hockey. The posts in this thread make it seem like goons can only punch, not play.

Find a good one. Reaves and Deslauriers chip in goals.

I guess you could ask the star players like Wayne Gretzky and Teemu Selanne who said they liked having an enforcer on their team.

You sadly need tough guys who also can play hockey well enough so they aren't a liability these days and there just aren't many of those around.

Yeah I hate revenge on guys like Wilson but man I fear that in generations to come someone will slice someones throat because someone goes psycho like Wilson does.
NHL needs to make a statement and also get these psychos some help. You dont need to kill to play hockey.

    f*** dirty "enforcers".
Go enforcers who are smart - and annoying in their own way.

No, just get rid of Parros and place someone competent instead.
