As for the list, I like it. I'm wondering where they have Kopitar, Korhenon and Lehtonen. I know that ISS had Kopitar in their top 10 last year, but it's very hard to get any sort of info on this kid.
Kopitar got 2 points today in his first game in the Swedish Junior league.

Thanks. But I like what I've heard from him, as I have had some long talks with the head scout at ISS, and they seem very high on him. Sounds something like another Kostitsyn. Lots of offensive hype but not many people have seen him play.

one minor note...the description of jack johnson says he is playing at michigan this year, but thats not true. He's playing for the US U-18 NTDP this year, he'll be going to michigan in 2005...

O'Marra ahead of Latendresse is just....wrong.

I'm pretty sure it has to do with the injury and how he can bounce back. It's the first time I see Latendresse out of the top 5 on any list.

I agree with that one, O'Marra is good but he is not Latendresse.

my top 5 would be:

1.Crosby
2. Brule
3. Latendresse
4. Anikeenko
5. Kindl

I have seen them all play live except Kindl but have heard enough from reliable sources to know he is special. Anikeenko IMO is the best d-man forthe draft no matter if he had a bad tourny once or not. He plays just like Blake and is great in the defensive end. I seen Anton Babchuk play at the U17s before as well and Anikeenko is waaaayyyyyy better than what Babchuk was and I am a big Babchuk fan. IMO I think if teams take Paquet, or Bourdon or Staal or Gauthier or anyone ahead of Anikeenko in the future they will be kicking themselves saying "WHY"

I am still not a big Brock Bradford fan. Good talent yes, super weak also, I think his size will cause him to fall alot in the rankings. IMO 3rd round or late late 2nd IMO. I am not much to get hung up on size but Bradford was getting pushed off the puck all the time he wasn't doing a whole lot with the puck. He would pass the puck off to Brule or Setoguchi and he would get the points that way. IMO highly skilled but super weak.

Even if they are undeserving, the way the NHL is right now, I don't see a goalie not going top ten.

Personally, I don't think this year's crop is (at this point) as great as many people are making it out to be. The depth is reasonably good and Crosby is a phenom, but I just don't see a killer top end in this draft. Brule is the consesnsus No.2 right now- and he's an exciting player- but would he be a consensus #2 in most years?

Moreover, there's no stud defenseman. Kindl is (to me) at about the same level as Smid last year (OK- a VERY small touch better) and he is consensus top 5. Johnson is equal to Suter at the same age IMO- top 10 yes but no superman tag. Anikeenko is I think overrated on these boards. OK- Apparently he was great at the under 17's a year ago and was getting press because he has played with a year-older age group in Russia (without standing out though). And at the recent U-18 in Slovakia he was really quite average even IN his own age group. Physically, he looks the package but his decision-making (with or without the puck) you need a calendar to time.

And where's a stud powerforward? I like O'Marra but will he really have a better season than Ladd did last year- his playalike?

I dunno. I'm a little skeptical about the top end of this draft. But let's see what happens now that Europe is underway...

In regards to the WHL group:

Under no circumstances should Setoguchi be ahead of Durand. Chris Durand I feel will go around the #10 mark. Skill wise, he's top 10 for sure.

Carey Price is the one guy in the WHL I would say who is going to FLY up the charts. I think he'll be the first goaltender to go (over that Q guy, I can't spell his name so I'm not even going to make an attempt). In fact, I think he could go.. ready for this.. top 5. With his size and reflexes, there is enough there to make a GM think he could be a franchise guy. I think even if he only has an 'okay' season, he'll be a first rounder.

Mike Gauthier and Brendan Mikkleson could both be considered potential first rounders. Gauthier in particular I like. I think he wasn't able to show much last year, and he'll make believers out of scouts this year. Even if he doesn't break through offensively, he still could make it into the first round. Hell, Andy Rogers was a first rounder. Mikkleson is a big maybe, but I like him.

I personally feel Latendresse is going to slip to the bottom half of the draft. Anyone else feel that way?

Lastly, don't count out Danny Bertram for that #3 spot. After Brule and Crosby, one could pretty easily argue I'd say that he's the most skilled forward after those two guys, and certainly perhaps the most explosive.

I feel 2005 is going to be about as deep as it gets through the first half of the first round. Anyone picking before #20 even could come away with a franchise guy.

Ummmm..I'm getting a few reports about Brule these days and I may have to eat what I wrote in the post above. I'll see him live in Nov. and perhaps then I'll have to change my tune to talking about the lack of a credible #3.

I dunno. I'm a little skeptical about the top end of this draft. But let's see what happens now that Europe is underway...

-Players like Crosby don't come around everydraft.

-Players like Brule don't come around every draft either.

-Latendresse is a power forward that would go 1st overall in some drafts also Setoguchi is one awsome power forward as well.

-There are 5 goalies with 1st round talent in Rask, Levasseur, Mior, Price and Vincent.

-Johnson is just awsome, IMO he is better than Suter I seen Suter play at the WJC and Johnson play last year at the U17s and Johnson is the compete package plus he is exciting to watch. Kindl is awsome as well and is better than what Smid is. Anikeenko is not overrated, he is awsome but people don't get to see him play so he falters in rankings. Plus with Lashoff, Staal, Boudon, Paquet, Vojta, Buravchikov, Laakso, Korhonen, Lee, etc all having the ability to go 1st round in anydraft they would have been in. This year is awsome for d-men as well.

-this draft has awsome players getting bumbed down to the 3rd round ni my mock drafts that I do.

This draft is not overrated the least, this could be the best 1st round draft ever for talent. IMO you will still get superstar forwards getting drafted 2nd round in this draft and great d-men in the 2nd round with franchise goalies in the 2nd round as well.

I haven't seen many others in this draft, but I agree with you on Johnson. I saw him at the USA evaluation camp earlier this summer and he was the best defenseman there, over guys like Suter, Thelen, and Lashoff.

I don't understand how some people can rate him outside of their top 10, when he has a shot at top 5.

I hope so. Maybe I'm getting jaded in my old age. I'd certainly say the Q can look forward to a great year.

Great list Sharkie however i disagree with some points
*You and ISS seem much higher on O'Marra than me. I belive he will go around 15-20 and not 7th.
*Zubov/Paquet seem a bit high eventhough I really like Paque. I see them go around 25-35.
*Ryder is way too low. Sholud go in the later stages of the first
*Where is Denis Istomin?? He is also a player that should go in the later stages of the first.

Sticky*

Once again I will re-iterate my opinion that by the end of the year, Staal will be in the running for top defenseman with Johnson, Kindl, and Anikeenko, trust me. Everyone seems to have him in the late 20's, i would bet that he is gone before pick # 13.
