To answer your question from the previous thread, yes, those stats for MDC are right. He’s been noticeably much better thus far. Probably been Bridgeport’s best all around player early on.

Looks like Bridgeport is bad huh? The entire team is minus. Not seeing any goals for Ho-Sang is disappointing.

MDC playing well is like finding a $5 dollar bill on the street. It would have been sweeter if it was a $10 or a $20, but a nice little treat nonetheless.

I'm not drinking the Kool Aid on MDC. Based on what I saw at a few Sound Tiger games and his cup of coffee with the Isles last year, I'd be shocked if he ever made the top 6 on an NHL team. I suppose it's possible he could morph into a bottom 6 forward but that too is unlikely and definitely not what we need or want. To be fair, I haven't seen him yet in Bridgeport but I will check that off my list soon.
Time to sell high and if he keeps up a good first 1/2 of the season then package him with Mr. Brocktober at the TDL.

I know it’s a snall sample but he has looked much better this year. He’s not flashy and doesn’t look like he did in juniors, but it’s an improvement. Like you said, he probably won’t become a top six winger, but I don’t think it’s crazy at all for him to become a bottom six scoring winger and PP specialist who can pot 15 goals or so. If he can do that and is cheap, I see no reason to not keep him around. We could move Nelson and replace him with Dal Colle as early as this season if we wanted to, which is a decent trade off since MDC is showing himself to be sinilar to Nelson except he actually goes into the corners and can hound puck carriers.

Perhaps we get lucky and MDC is one of those guys who really doesn't fill out until he's 23-24. With his shot and overall game, maybe he ends up being a solid 3rd liner who can pot some goals. I'm thinking Dan Cleary, who was once a top prospect that disappointed and ended up being a good 3rd liner on Detroit's Cup teams.

This is the approach I’m taking with him.

If they decide to keep him as a 13th forward next year as someone who has to work their way into the lineup, he’ll be a low risk and a medium reward. And his cost will also be cheap (think under 1M).

How has Dobson looked (defensively etc.)? He’s at a PPG clip, would like to see that higher.

He’s known to be an excellent defender, with an offensive mindset. I don’t think his team is as good as last year’s version, so his offensive stats probably won’t explode this year unless he goes on a year.

Do top end CHL defenseman score at above PPG clip typically? I didn't realize that.

As his team isn't that great as Scott pointed out, more than anything, I just want to see him put on some muscle. And get top pairing duties in the WJC.

Fill out?
Physically?
How much bigger can he get?
He looks like a pretty solid guy.
To me his problem is he can’t skate.

He’s already been traded to Chicoutimi. The deal is agreed in principle. They’re waiting for the trade period to open to complete the move.
I am selfishly hoping he is traded by Chicoutimi to the mooseheads

He was super lanky when he was drafted, I assume including skinny legs. If he's a guy who gets his man strength late, that should include his legs which could help his skating.

I was among the minority that was against drafting him in the first place - just trying to find some hope in the situation. :dunno:

I'm pretty sure that was rhetorical, but it really isn't all that uncommon for top end offensive dmen to score above that rate. Ty Smith and Ryan Merkely, for example, both did it last season and are at well over a ppg pace so far this season. That said, I agree with your more general point that it's pretty meaningless. A lot of the defensemen who put up gaudy stats are very one way defenseman and that won't necessarily translate to the NHL. Guys who are focusing on playing more of an all around game are less likely to hit those0 numbers, but often are better prospects overall.

Heck, our own David Quenneville was over a ppg his last two seasons in the WHL, and now is struggling just to stick in the AHL.

He's tall, but he's still pretty skinny. At 6'3" he could easily stand to play at ~215 lbs, which would be another ~15 lbs of muscle for him to add. His footspeed is unlikely to improve notably, but adding strength would help him protect the puck and power through opposing dmen, both of which would be another way for him to find more space offensively and allow him to be more involved.

I don't think it was rhetorical....he wants to see him scoring at over a PPG clip whereas not being a follower of Junior hockey, I didn't realize that was the norm. You've pointed out to me that it is - at least potentially, so thank you for that.

But I think we're also in agreement that stats only tell part of the story - David Quenville being a perfect example.

My mistake then, I misread the tone of your post. But glad I could help and that we agree on the overall point in the end.
