Shouldn’t have been a penalty but I guess you could argue that he interfered with him since the puck was long gone and he didn’t touch it, but definitely not something that should be called based on the context.

I actually can see why it might be called.

Am I crazy? The puck is gone and he runs a pick.

Looks more like they were both trying to glove the same airborne puck, both missed, and then collided.

Where's the interference?

If Sekera wasn't watching the puck and instead bodied Foligno to take him out of the play, then sure, call it. But he was watching the puck the whole way.

Looks more like the Dallas player prevents Foligno from chasing it after he misses it. He lowers the shoulder.

You can disagree, but I find it hard to see it as the worst call of the season.

Probably some hyperbole involved there, no doubt, but I don't think Sekera intended to interfere there.

Just looks like two players colliding while trying to get to a loose puck. :dunno:

You’re probably right.

But once again we always see these plays as replays in slow motion and not at game speed so I guess what I’m really saying is that I could see how a ref might interpret it as a penalty.

The ref doesn’t have the luxury of multiple viewings at super slow motion.

There's been about 10 worse calls/non-calls against Montreal alone this season, and that's only one team. So no, I'd say this isn't the worst call this season.

In real-time I can absolutely see why the ref thought he was interfering with him.

It's one of those "was the wrong call but understandable one" situations.

I would absolutely not want this called, but technically it’s not a wrong call. The puck was “passed” in the technical sense just out of reach of a player who was then body checked down. He never touched the pass so he wasn’t eligible to be hit.

Again it’s definitely a dumb call but not even technically wrong, let alone the worst you’ll see this week.

This is the mickey mouse stuff they call every game now unfortunately. But it is technically interference.

To answer your question, no. I don't think this is even in the top 10 to be honest.

I think the worst call is still Jeff Carter, who was called for interference when he landed a clean hit on the puck carrier. This also happened to Bennett, but that one was more of a bang bang play.
