While I agree that Titanic is a master piece and one of the greatest movies ever made, I'll have to say that there is at least 12 movies I'd rather watch right now.

Inception
Gladiator
Requiem for a Dream
Full Metal Jacket
Saving Private Ryan
Scarface
Kill Bill: Volume 1
Jurassic Park
Mad Max: Fury Road
Terminator
The entire Pirates of the Caribbean series
You were doing so well up until this point. There is only one Pirates of the Caribbean movie, and it is a GOAT. The rest are parodies.

Also, a lot of those are just solid movies rather than GOATs.

What was wrong with it that make it "over rated"?

It lacks action, my man. I'm a die hard fan of movies like Die Hard, Casino Royale, Terminator, etc, etc... Shawshank is just too boring for me, I guess, ha ha. Too much dialogue, not enough guns and explosions. These "well written" and "intelligent" movies that "make you think" just aint for me. But I'd watch a Steven Seagal movie anytime.

Ok this is all personal preference which is fine, but as a movie buff...why do you think it seems to be at the tops of most people's list?

Look at it more objectively.

People like Morgie Freeman? I don't know, tbh. Not my cup of tea.

Haha naw, Then every Freeman movie would be excellent.

It's very well written. You get very connected to the characters who are well acted. You believe in the relationship between Andy and Red. It has a a believable story about brutal prison life and an overall theme regarding hope which I think creates a strong connection to many viewers.

And then after crawling through 2 hours of muck...we get to celebrate a happy ending with our two main characters.

Add in a memorable score and great supporting cast, you have yourself a movie that connects with many people on an emotional level. Because who hasn't almost lost all hope?

You are basically just faulting it for being a drama and not an action movie.

That's my take on it anyways.

Curious how you feel about Hitchcock movies then?

The first time I saw Titanic I was in 3rd grade and my parents made me go with them. The movie made me cry and I've never watched it since. Hard pass

Wuss.

How did your Dad take it when you told him you were gay?

The ONLY reason to watch this movie when it came out was with a chick to get laid. Now, given - it worked every time.

But, that still doesn’t make it an all-time great.

The first time I watched this I saw my first boobie and also became very curious about sex because I wanted to know what Jack was doing to Rose in the back seat of that Model T and why it was so steamy. I was not old enough to be having sex yet so your entire post sucks and literally makes no sense.

Great movie, pretty much everything about it is great, however......not in my top lists.

1st is and always will be T2 - The Judgement Day
- i think its the greatest movie ever made, that movie really simplifies human kind to the point,T2 haves everything.
the ending makes my cry, every single time and say in my mind; you the man...proverbial man

- greatest ending scene of all movies, with the greatest score -

I am going to watch this film tonight because of your recommendation and hope that is stacks up to Titanic because I would literally love to expand my top 7 list to top 8.

Thank you so much in advance.
