Is the relationship between wins and team rating (srs/goal differential etc) linear?

AFAIK, there is not a single "end-all-be-all" statistic for hockey that correlates that highly to winning, winning %, points, or points%...

I've done some work on this in the past, and from what I remember, Goals For has an R^2 of roughly 0.5 to wins.
