Is Ryan O'Reilly the most underrated forward in the NHL?

The guy is having a breakout season at 28. Nothing about him is underrated. When he signed his last deal he was pretty overpaid but now getting to play with some talented wingers he is living up to that deal finally.

Am I glad for him, definitely. Is he a great hockey player, for sure. Is he underrated, not at all.

 If anything he's become quite overrated.

A quality 2C but he doesn't drive the play offensively(In fact 5 on 5 he's actually pretty bad compared to other 2Cs).

He's overpaid for what he brings as well. High end 2Cs are not making 7.5M a year right now instead more in the 6-6.5M range.

He's a great player, fantastic defensively and a very hard worker but no he certainly isn't the most under-rated player in the league.

Woof this is.....something

EDIT: just realized this is from last summer, but even so, man...

he was never overpaid just played with the Sabres...where you have guys have no offensive support unless they have Reinhart or Eichel with them.

At the time RoR didn't put up the offense to get anywhere close to what he was paid. Buf just decided to do it. The contract was obscene for that day and age, although now with multiple teams bumping up the cap and his offense improving, it is starting to look pretty fair. Multiple, far better players were paid millions less.

If you get paid like RoR does then you should be able to put up results no matter who you're played with because the only guys who get that money drive the bus.

good luck with Scott Wilson who got waived this year from a dreaded Sabres current roster....and a bunch of other 4th liners that played with him the majority of the year his production is basically what Mackinnon did + much better defense before Mackinnon's breakout year. His production was considerably good with a team that had nobody to score.
