Is Patrick Roy an Av or a Hab?

Will Patrick Roy be more remembered as a Hab or an Av? For me I started watching hockey just before he was traded so I cant picture him in anything other than Colorado colors. A case could be made for either team.

Colorado Stats:
478 GP, 262 Wins, .918 SV% 2.27 G.A.A 37 SO.
He also won 2 Stanley Cups and a Con Smyth trophy in 2001 and Jennings in 01/02.

Montreal Stats:
551 GP, 289Wins, .904SV% 2.77 G.A.A 29 SO.
He also won 2 Stanley Cups and lost in the 1989 Stanley Cup finals and won 2 Con Smyth Trophies, 3 Veiznas and 4 Jennings trophies.

Split down the middle for me. It's hard to call the guy a Hab when he walked out on the team and won 2 Cups elsewhere. But it's hard to call him an Av when he played less than half his career there. 50/50.

I mostly grew up watching him as an av, and he also helped #77 win a cup there, so to me hes an avalanche.

It has to be Montreal for me. He was much more important in the Habs cup runs in 86 and 93 then for the Avs. He was drafted by the Habs and helped inspired a whole generation of french canadian kids to grow up playing net. He's from Quebec and returned to Quebec after he retired. Still constantly hear about him in the news, reminding us of the good old days.

You guys had Sakic and Forsberg, we only had Roy and everyone worshipped him and still worship him.

Not only that, I'll never forget when he won the cup at such a young age and his fairy tale run in 93. These are moments that make Roy who he is. Take those two moments away and he becomes just another great goalie.

To say that he's more an Avs then Habs player is like saying Francis is more a Pens legend then a Whalers/Canes legend.

Roy had his absolute best years with Montreal, and happened to play a few more games there, so I would put him with Montreal.

Agree. I watched much more of him as an Av too, but his accomplishments really are split down the middle.

An Av forsure they actually knew how to treat him and with the rich history of Montreal he gets forgotten a bit.

The way he parted with the Habs makes him even more of a Hab.

That loss to the Wings and Roy saying: "It's my last game in Montreal." and everything surrounding it is pretty much hockey lore and in the top 3 moments of Habs history in the 90s.

Av, easy, I'm a Detroit fan

edit: We caused him to go to Colorado :D

I always thought that was kind of funny and ironic. Detroit was the final straw in chasing Roy out of Montreal but Roy got the last laugh just a little while later beating them to go to the Finals and being arch-rivals for years after that.

Seems to me most people that watched his whole career would consider him a Hab, such as myself.

Basically this, I don't know how anyone can consider him an Av but to each his own
