How useful would John Leclair be in Today's NHL

Does he play a different style?

Is Milan Lucic at his best the closest comparison to what Leclair might look like today

Far, far from Lucic.
Leclair had maybe one or two career fights? He was not as big of a hitter or intimidating or stupid of a hockey player either. And Lucic never had a 50 goal season let alone 3 of them in a row.

I'd say his comparable would be Corey Perry based on size and skills.

Leclair was a great skater who scored 50 goals at a time when D-men were allowed to do almost anything they wanted to forwards, so I think he'd still be very effective in today's game. Lucic isn't a good comparable because Leclair's "power forward" status was due more to his size than his hitting or fighting ability.

I actually think he'd look a lot like Voracek. Which is to say, he'd probably have to drop some weight and play a faster game in order to thrive in this era.

That said, Leclair had a huge slapshot and would just blast the puck past goalies on the rush, and I'm not sure that skill could translate to today's game.

Lindros and Leclair would be unstoppable in today's game given the rule changes.

Dustin Penner with slightly better goal scoring ability. a big soft floater that can bury a few pucks. Without Lindros he's pretty forgetable.

When I hear the word power forward I immediately think of Leclair, he is one of the best.

Lucic is a Terrible comparison Leclair was a FARRR superior player but not as physical opposing nor was he a fighter at all. Leclair was superhuman like strong and a really good skater for his size. Think Corey Perry with 15 more lbs of muscle.

Yeah, fifty, a few, that's about the same. Floater? The guy made his living three feet from the net when d men could hit you with everything but a machete to move you.

His possession numbers would probably be ridiculous with the way he used his body.

i'd love to see a prime lindros and leclair in today's NHL

they'd easily be the best duo in the game

I don't think a lot of people ITT actually saw Leclair play. He wasn't anything like Lucic or Penner. He was a big, skilled, disciplined goal-scoring winger, who went to the dirty areas and had a filthy shot. He wasn't overly gritty or assertive with his size, but he wouldn't back down from you either. Stylistically, prime Iginla may be the closest or perhaps a stronger, more skilled JVR.

Yeah and all the defenceman did that to Lindros while Leclair was left there to pop in the easy garbage. The Rob Brown effect.

LeClair wasn't just "left there." He wasn't some forgotten member of the line riding Lindros' coattails.

You should check out LeClair's performance without Lindros.

The 1996 World Cup where he was one of the best players in the tournament on the gold medal winning team. The tournament was one that was filled with a ton of HoFer's & boarderline HoFer's. The rosters of the gold medal games between the Canadians & the US basically featured the who's who of hockey in the 90's.

Lindros was always battling injuries while LeClair was always pretty healthy during their primes leaving LeClair without Lindros for a fair chunk of the time.

You know who else looks like Voracek? God.

You know will never be as good as Voracek? Wayne Gretzky.

How many Harts will Voracek win this year? 7.

Rumor has it, Voracek has already won the 2016 Presidential Election.

And no. Leclair was absolutely nothing like Lucic.

I grew up rooting against the Flyers in the 90's and I was always more afraid of Leclair than I was of Lindros.
