My question: what do these gifs add to the board at all? They are not even remotely related to hockey and are against site-rules, even if they are under spoiler tags.

I don't mind the spoiler idea, but I just don't see the point in this NSFW content at all.

The thing is, the site rules have changed over the years, and a lot of those posts don’t necessarily break the rules. Things like swearing and gif only posts are also now allowed to a further extent than before.

Yup.

Also, keep on mind there are younger kids here too, and yes, I know they probably see much worse stuff, but do we really want to validate that the objectification of women should be accessible everywhere? There should be some "safe" spaces where people can go for non-hypersexualized images.
As you posted this thread, what is your opinion on my compromise?

Some might be getting a little too racy.

Maybe should be a standard on the degree of raciness. Has anyone ever worked out a mathematical way to calculate bounce? Maybe need a maximum degree of bounce allowed too.

You turn women into objects of sex and they become mere objects to some people, don't you get that?

There's nothing unnatural about being attracted to anyone, but this is a sports forum.
Can you imagine that someone who isn't a hetero male may want to browse this site for Oiler content?
Looking at pictures of beautiful women is not turning them into sex objects, so no I don't get it. I always find it amusing how people talk about men being pigs and objectifying women as sex objects because they like and appreciate fine female forms with or without clothes. Yet when you turn on the TV you're bombarded by visuals of famous celebrities, singers, athletes, and women from all walks of life gyrating, dancing and flaunting what they have, but somehow it's wrong for men to watch it or enjoy it. It's a giant crock. Like that girl at your work who wears her sheeny yoga pants that do nothing but show her ass off to the world then acts all offended and objectified when people look at her ass.

Again this all just an opinion, and I have no problem with mods enforcing a sort of ban on this because you're right this is a hockey discussion forum first and foremost.

5) Offensive Content: This is a site for ages 13 and up. Minors will be viewing our content, and threads are searchable on the web. Do not post slurs and stereotypes, sexually-oriented material, gore (human or animal), or any other potentially objectionable material. Our users are diverse in all ways so please respect that. Do not circumvent the profanity filter with alternate spellings/characters. Simply type out the word and let the filter handle it. Wishing injury on players or other persons is considered offensive.

It seems pretty clear.

It was my idea, I just woke up over here to this thread and I'm trying to find ways to keep everyone content. I take full responsibility for it whether you think that it's dumber than dog shit or not.

But the bolded is not the missive. That isn't the role. That is your stated preference.

With all due respect this is the profound difficulty with the application of any set of rules. That people use their own filters and apply as they see fit.

Weird poll. Don't get it. Why poll about what most agree could be hurtful to other posters?

Just lock it down and move on.

What is NSFW?

So we voluntarily confine the gifs to winning pgt’s, and everyone knows it’s afterhours in there, so enter at your own risk of seeing PG-rated cleavage.

Hypothetical situation. Let's pretend that this site was 99% female. In every PGT, 99% of the posters post images of male strippers flapping their schlongs celebrating the win. There are no images of females in the thread. Would you: A. Post pictures of males swinging their schlongs to fit in? B. Ignore every PGT because you don't want to see these types of pictures? C. Stop posting and visiting in general because you find this material doesn't suit your taste?

Brutal post.

1) The ads on TV have nothing to do with HFOil
2)Those tiny gifs are against the rules of the site.
3)Allowing people to break the rules adds to the fun *for some*
4)What's on social media sites is irrelavent to this site or the topic at hand.
5)The existence of sexualised popups is also irrelavent, and not something that's present on this site.
6)A 'couple' people appears to be the majority of those who have weighed in on the thread
7)It's not the 'fun for all', or else this discussion wouldn't be occuring.
8)The onus shouldn't be on posters to actively seek out and block posters
9)There's not way to block seeing only a persons' linked images, perhaps they would still like to see the rest of their posts that are contributing to hockey discussion.

I don't mean to go after you specifically, but it encapsulates a lot of the points I've seen expressed. For whatever it's worth, I like seeing gratuitous sexual images, but I also recognize this isn't the place for that.

Go live in a cave, lord, you sound like you'd be fun at parties.
If said gifs were against the rules then people would be getting banned for posting them as mods police everything else quite well.
We're literally commenting on a game that most watch on TV while posting on here... if you're that offended you may as well turn off the tv too and just stop watching games.

The discussion is only coming from the peoplel that are bothered, and as has been pointed out, they seem to be random posters coming out of the woodwork.
I rarely post gifs, but i posted one Katie Perry gif last night. I'm not sure if that classifies as offensive to some of you easily offended people, but 13 year old girls watch katie perry videos.

If y'all easily rattled individuals are that offended then i guess the spoiler idea is the best idea, but i'd rather not have to increase my clicking time so that i can see some boob reaections while watching sports with the boys.

They make the rules. This site is designed to make money. Ask your customers?

The board exists because of advertisers. The existence of this board in terms of who pays the bills is primarily ad driven. Not many of those advertisers I presume would be comfortable with verging on porn depictions dominating here.

Also, if people want to take a peak many of the out of towns boards are much better in that they don't stoop or cater to what is for some reason so prominent on this board. I don't know if its a dynamic whereby Edmonton is such a young demographic city that there is such a fixation for boobs.

I like that all those pics and gifs go with spoiler tags with a descriptor

At the very least, if you are going on your phone away from wifi, it's a hog on your data.

And as much as I endorse freedom, I mostly like expressive photos that make a point. So a Melissa pic of her being happy when we win is okay, but just a pic of her randomly just splinters the discussion and is off topic clutter.

No worries man. Just for the love of G-d, never introduce something like that lol.

Spoilers are fine, MAYBE. There is just no need for gif's of titties flopping around on our board. That should be the end of the discussion. Everyone likes to look at beautiful women though, that should be allowed. :thumbu:

Big wins and beautiful women go together wonderfully. Removing that aspect would be a bit concerning in regards to 'the slippery slope'. Don't think anyone aside from a few posters actually want the DD gif's.

No offense, but I didn't know following forum rules as something we get to vote on

We’ve always let posters have more of a say in HFOil than other boards. We’re not voting on the rules, but the severity to which people would like to see the rules are applied. The decision still comes down to the mods, and admins

Except that’s a subjective term. Some gifs crossed that line, but not all of them.

To be clear, I’m on the side of not having them immediately visible. I’m just letting people know that the rules have in fact changed. A lot of our long time posters might not have been aware of it

You and I can presume all we want.

We do know they care about number of views and traffic.

This is also an 18+ site. I don't think the kids argument is applicable.

There's a difference between a woman that is fully clothed and a woman that is near nude.

That said, if there are posters here that take offense to @Cloned's posts, I'm sure he'd stop posting them. The whole point of this is to make sure everyone here is comfortable and is able to enjoy the forum.

I take offense to @Cloned video musical choices but mostly in jest.

jk, kind of

no, on second thought I really don't like his music videos..;)

We banter back and forth, squabble, but its meant in good fun.

Like Seinfeld, theres potentially no point to this post. ;)

Curious about the bolded. Theres no requirement, proof, or verification of this. Thus children can access this site at anytime, view it anytime, as much as they like.

So I don't know for certain that your argument is applicable.

ps If this site cared about views it would make me a writer...pffft. heh ;)

ps your wrong. Its not +18 site.

The general posting attitudes of some people on this board is a huge problem. It's a different problem. There can be more than one problem.

@Oil Dood inspired me to change my attitude, to post more respectfully. @Mowzie is encouraging me to report more inappropriate and broadly derogatory content.

We can all at least try.

Aw man now I am blushing. Seriously though we all know how long it can take to get back to the playoffs right? So I figured why not enjoy it?

I grew up in the Gretzky era and honestly I took it for granted. It is not a mistake I will make with McDavid.

If the site was 18+ it would be required to have an age gate when you register and browse...

You haven't followed through any of the thread. So you don't know the entire context of whats been stated.

I'll remind that yesterday a post gave an active video screenshot of a young girl bouncing and jiggling for pay. It was a pure pay for porn depiction. NSFW, not safe for here, and completely inappropriate here. Apparently people have profound difficulty understanding degrees and any apparent standard very quickly goes out the door. To the degree that a poster was posting what is essentially pay per view porn, of a youth, here on this board. This apparently being the slippery slope.

If that isn't disgusting to you any further discussion is unlikely to help.

There was no warning of the post in question, no way in which not to see it, it wasn't even indirect linked. It was an active video on the page, in a post, that you end up seeing in a PGD just for scrolling down..

Ive seen a few of the bouncy gifs but most of what I’ve seen was super girl or other celebrity crushes which I don’t find the least bit offensive. If someone is posting soft core porn you just report it and let the mods decide what to do with it.
