Is reputation has a leader got so bad that outrageous trade rumors started to circulate about him, for example

Top 15 Most Insane Montreal Canadiens Rumors In Team History

Shane Corson for Yzerman.

Yzerman didn't even made Team Canada in 1991 has a peak example of all flash not a winner reputation, look at some name that were pick above him:
1991 Canada Cup rosters - Wikipedia

And Lindros had yet to play any game has a pro.

And now he has the reputation of one of the greatest captain and winner ever.

Wow, a thoughtful, insightful, and informational post on HF boards.

Enjoyed reading. Cheers.

Yzerman ppg in the playoffs was actually higher before his first cup than during and after. Stamkos struggled in the playoffs from his first year forward. Yzerman was judged for his team's overall results while this kind of judgment should be passed on the coach only.

And for history to repeat itself, Stamkos would have to 1) not get traded, 2) win 3 stanley cups.

Is there cause for concern? We don't know the dynamics of that locker room well enough to judge.

Will he garner a reputation that is negative as a leader should they come up short the next couple years - yes, well at least in these circles.

Amazing how many of the people who judged Ovi the same way are now singing his praises.....

Rational hockey people will judge him on his whole body of work, not just off of this formula.

Ovechkin actually performed in the playoffs. and is a much better player, still got raildroaded when his team would fail.

Undoubtedly a much lesser player in Stamkos who gets touted as a top 5-10 c should get lambasted even more because he usually does nothing in the post season.

Seeing as how they threw in the towel from the second half on, I don't see the point about " Pacing".

People just over rating the team who got swept. Lol HF never ceases to amaze me. "pacing" lmao

Or how about Steve Yzerman was and always will be a much better player and all time great before during and after his Cup wins than Steven Stamkos.

Why are you quoting a post from last year?

Last year I said "If Tampa comes up short the next couple years.."

Obviously they did this year. Obviously Stamkos did. And obviously it effects our views, as we now have an increased body of work to judge from.

Stamkos also made the finals as a 25 year old which is pretty impressive. Yzerman didn't make the finals until he was 31.

People have to relax. TBL's core is all under 30. This wasn't a one time shot.

But a lot of them aren't that far under 30. They're starting to creep up there. Years come quickly. In terms of a one time shot, how many more chances are they going to get? They've already been to the 3rd rd/Final with this basic core 3 times, and have a separate 128 point season. In a 7 year span, Chicago had 5 real chances. Pittsburgh, with Crosby and Malkin, have gotten that far 4 times, and 5 if you include the 0 wins in the conference final in 2013. Washington ended up finally breaking through after their own GM said their window was probably closed for a bit. This was TB's 3rd/4th shot already, and they just wasted Point's ELC. Opportunities aren't endless.

Stamkos needs to not worry about the fairness of the playoff format for Boston and Toronto though. That seems to be the problem with TB's season in a nutshell; they had too much time on their hands. The playoff format is so unfair for other teams, and they get swept by what would've been the 8th seed in the fair format. It's beautiful in a way. Unless they wanted to play Vegas in a really fair format, but then Vegas is playing pretty well too.
