Babcock was supposed to be fired in the summer, Shanny wanted to keep him around. The decision was made by everyone except Shanny a LONG time ago. Watching how bad/demotivated everyone was, is what got him fired.

Garbage PK
Garbage PP
Garbage goalie managemnt
Refusing to adjust
Stubborn/holding grudges and benching his stars in favor of grinders
Not allowing players to play to their strengths

Imagine coaching Ali, and telling him he cant use his speed/skill/stamina, instead he needs to grind, go toe to toe, and exchange heavy blows.
Complete misuse of this roster.

That being said, if he gets hired by a team/gm with the same vision as him, i fully expect him to be at the top of the league again. He's a very type specific coach and needs players that excel in a cycle game that play safe defensively, waiting to capitalize on 1 or 2 mistakes the opponent makes. He was never the right fit for this team

Only people who think so are non Leaf fans. Writing was on the wall after the Pens game not the Vegas game.

Despite where we are in the standings, the team should have been able to hold their own against the Pens, and defeat the Knights. The latter almost happened...

It was actually a few things.
There was a tweeted paragraph, that had Babcock's way to win and Dubas' vision of winning.
Both do work, but the team as constructed can't play Babcock's way, but can Dubas'.

He also was downright bitchy about the players moves over his tenure. Removal of his
"toys", acquisition of players, he just didn't like.

Thank you for the structure, the culture...and wish you well in your future.
You're not hated here.

If that's the reason, which it probably isn't, it would be strange. You fire a coach because the work is not sufficient or he can't reach a team and not because an opponent makes a good play.

Winning that one game doesn't make him anywhere close to safe. All it would've taken is for them to lay an egg on a different night and he would've been gone
