There is more to hockey than heart.

Skill, talent, speed, puckluck, hot goalies..... that still matters.

And the kids have shown they don't want to put in the work to play winning hockey. Babcock was a dick. However they didn't want to put in the work. Instead they revolted and he got fired. Now they are a part of one of the most embarrassing moments in hockey.

There is more to hockey than putting in work.

You cannot outwork your way to a Cup.

Absolutely there’s more to hockey than heart, but that doesn’t mean it’s not also a part of it.

Dubas and the Leafs just paid their four "best" forwards 494K tonite to stink it up in a game against a EBUG that only made 500 bucks total for the night.

What do you think...

I'd usually say something to a dumb comment like this, but you know what? I'm done defending the Leafs and anything associated with them. I'm ashamed that I'm a fan of them tonight.

Have a great day sir!

All of which is irrelevant if your team doesn't rise to the occasion.

You had one of the best teams in recent memory get swept by a wild card team in the first round.

Skill, talent, speed, puck luck and hot goalies are all a distant second to hard work as far as post-season success is concerned.

Did Kyle Dubas just somehow put a spin on them losing to a f*cking zamboni driver???

Nothing wrong with what he said, dude is an adult running a hockey team not a frothing at the mouth message board dopamine addict that needs everything to be le epic life or death drama. If you're playing a high school game and the other team puts a 5 year old in goal it's gonna mess with you one way or another and you won't hear the end of it either way. They can easily put this behind them and win games the way they did in the days before.

He's what, 34? It's painfully clear that he has to learn on the job. You're having Jim Rutherford and Ken Holland pivoting their management after learning on the job in their 60s ffs.

His most obvious drawback was he completely disregarded the value of meat and potato players and how different lines at different TOI, deployments, special teams etc need to be able to play differently. The fact that his answer on D was Ceci and Barrie, his 4th line has always been a mishmash of leftover AHL/dumpster dive players and he doesn't have a single proper PKing center says it all. Also thinking backup goalie was a position he could wing after watching Chicago win the cup in his 20s.

That said, some of the things he has done were good (Muzzin was a near perfect get) and he's trending better with getting Clifford and Campbell. But he should have gone for DeMelo/Vatanen (maybe both) while moving on from Ceci and Barrie if the right trade was there for him. And if his gambit with sending Lehner to Vegas gets the Leafs a playoff spot over the Canes that will be one of the coolest subtle GM moves in a while.

The transactions in the offseason determines how good Dubas is. The Barrie trade didn't work out. Not trading Barrie today is BAD. The ahl/4th line trades are just noise. One of Kapanen, Nylander, Marner, or Tavaras will have to go to get d and depth help. Its not like the Leaf problems are unsolvable. But trading kap for no 4 d-men or acquiring Subban in offseason worsens the issues not improves.

Thankfully, Dubas was smart enough to not give into media pressure, and hang onto Barrie. Did exactly what he needed to do today.
