Maybe Bozak was tired that year from getting 27 points in 37 games in the NHL that same year?

Bracco got 32 points in 50 games with the Marlies. That's .64 PPG. It's good. It's also the AHL.

Bozak's 27 in 37 works out to .73. That's better. And that's in the NHL.

Neither one looks like an All-Star IMO.

How exactly did Bozak get tired of playing in the NHL when he was promoted to the Leafs after his 37 games? Are you claiming he is a time traveller who played in the NHL and then went eight months back in time to play in the AHL, where he scored 0.62 ppg on the Marlies top line (whereas Braccos has spend most of his time on the 4th line?) When has Bracco played with .75ppg NHL point producers like Kessel and JVR in the NHL?

Meh. Shootout success is volatile, and only of value in regular season. This should not be an important point in a discussion on whether we should re-sign Bozak.
"Only valuable in the regular season", that's important, those extra points can be the difference from making the playoffs to missing. It's something to consider when resigning him.

If Bozak will resign for a short term at a low cost and there isn't a better UFA out there, I'd like to see him back.

It takes a GOOD regular season to make the playoffs you know. Winning more shootouts helps with that.

I will be sad, and happy, when Bozak signs elsewhere. Happy, because I won't have to read the constant trashing he gets on here. And sad, because I think that his contributions to the team will be missed.

Well you're really not talking about more than perhaps one point coming off the back of that. If you take the difference between Bozak and his likely successor in the shootout, how many shootout attempts they get per year, and how many goals that change would result in and in turn how many wins those goals result in, I doubt we're talking about more than one.

Still, not nothing for sure. I do hope we'll take the next step to that of perennial playoff team though, and don't need to worry about margins like that.

As with JVRs tip in abilities, shootout prowess comes with treating the shootout as an important aspect to the game of hockey. Our players will need to put in the work to ensure that we are not a crappy shootout team. Its not like we have a dearth of snipers on the team. If neither they or the coaching staff can't be bothered then that's what we will be again, a crappy shootout team.

Meh. Look at shootout results over the years. It's wildly volatile. And shootout is very common part of practices, probably because players enjoy it. Teams are not bad because they don't take it seriously.

I hope they get rid of the shootouts, then losing Bozak wouldn't be as bad .

Read a couple of stories lately about Bozak when he a was a tier 2 star in BC. Was older and centred a young Jamie Benn and was full of hubris.
My theory of Tyler is that he has always had the star swagger and never learned to play in his own end and never really tried. As time passed he’s never adapted to playing defence, the Kessel years reinforced his neglect, and now he’s been rendered incompetent inside his own zone.
If the Leafs strike out on upgrading the position and decide not to move Nylander to centre, I’d be Ok on bringing him back on a one year deal to be a 3/4 liner pp specialist. No more than 1 year at any price.

Yup, Tyler's path to the NHL just screams young entitled star player.
:sarcasm:
Congratulations on showing that you know exactly zero about him.

9 years as arguably 1st or 2nd line centre 18 playoff games 10 playoff points. That can, and already has been replaced. Keeping him has a fringe role player barely makes sense.

Kids, when asked for a definition of “nonsense”, quote the above post.

Not sure what that means but sure, I hope Bozak signs a fat contract with a Atlantic rival and every time his line gets hemmed in and ices it the Leafs trot Matthews line out to take advantage of him the same way that opponents have for years.

The same way Matthews’ line took advantage of the Bruins? Or Kadri’s (4th) line was able to capitalize on their sheltered minutes?

Yeah. Way to show appreciation for actually contributing to the series going 7 Games.

Big picture, man, Bozak was fine for his tenure. It’s over, not championship caliber. Thanks for your service.
