I think the impact this guy brings to his team is only behind McDavid.

Currently this season his point per game rate is equal to Drai and behind McDavid so even production wise he qualifies as second best.

But I think what’s more important is his impact on different game situation.

He did lead the league in ES points, his OT record is ridiculous - Columbus went from the best to the worst OT team when Panarin left and he’s also one of the best shootout specialists in the league

Panarin doesn’t look as dangerous as a guy like MacKinnon, but at the same time, that’s not an actual indication of how scared you should be and more just a reflection of style. MacKinnon plays on a pretty powerful offensive team (#1 in the NHL) and looks like he’s dangerously driving play every shift, all shift. Panarin plays on a kind of upper-middle offense (#11) and can look kind of quiet. But at the end of the night he’ll have 3 points. Consistently. It is possible he has the second largest impact on his team and he certainly is producing at the 2nd-3rd best rate over the past two years. Colorado averages about .48 more goals per game than the Rangers, Panarin average about .15 more points per game than MacKinnon. Marginal, but Panarin is really only surpassed by McDavid.

I just can't put him second.
I watch MacKinnon play and he terrifies me whenever he has the puck. Panarin doesn't do that to me.
At the end of the day, it’s about results, not what terrifies you. And you can’t deny the results that Panarin has been putting up the last couple years.

McDavid could be the most dangerous player ever, but if he only scored 20 goals and 50 assists a year, then the quality of player is not resulting in good enough results.

I’d say that over this year and last year, Mackinnon and Panarin are trivially close, and you could go either way.

He's in the elite of the elite. He makes something out of nothing like the very top players.

the original quote was about Kucherov gliding around in comparison to panarin.

I'd hate to see what Kucherov could do if he wasn't "Gliding" around. didnt he have 34 points in the playoffs?

The post about Kuch was garbage, for sure.
