Might be the best sports short story ever! I hope we have the guy for the duration of his career and when his turn as captain arrives (and it will) I hope he holds it until he's ready to leave the game. Hard to fail with a mom like that!

Interesting article in the Athletic today of NHL players polled anonymously. Of note:

Bob was not in the top 5 of goalies in a “who do you want starting game 7 of the SCF” question.

Torts was the top vote-getter among coaches players DON’T want to play for.

However, he also received the fifth-most votes for coaches players DO want to play for.

We had no player in the top-5 for either most overrated or most underrated.

We’re neither top-5 in best fans or worst fans (not surprising on either count).

Cbus is not top-5 in most fun cities to visit on road (unsurprising) but also not in the top-5 of worst cities to visit on the road (take THAT, all you “Columbus sucks” haters!)

Players are roughly split on whether they want to keep current playoff format or go back to 1-8. Slight lean to wanting to go back to 1-8.

Players nearly unanimously want to go to the Olympics. Only one player said no, because he didn’t want to break up the season for three weeks.

"Good win boys, it was fun to watch. Now, let's see whats going to happen." - Bob

So it appears Bob was still not 100% sold on him not getting traded.

Or he was telling his team that they did a great job defending in front of him and that he had an easy game "watching"? Remember this was after a 4-0 win which we dominated the Sharks.

Blue Jackets development coach Jarkko Ruutu has been spotted in Helsinki couple of times, readers of Seiska announce.

"Jarkko is almost two metres long brute so may he could do with a more masculine dog. Pudel thought might be Jarkko's Sofia-darling's flufflord, they wonder to Seiska."

Cam Atkinson has 4 shorthanded goals. 4 is also the number of goals scored against us when Cam is penalty killing. How often does a player have as many or more shorthanded goals than goals against on the PK? Maybe once every 10 years?

I don't know how to check that. But I do know that Cam is a +1 on the PK, and Wennberg a -1. PKers are supposed to be like -10 or so. No player in the league has finished the year a plus in the last few years.

Cam and Wenny have just been flat out dominant PK forwards, we don't credit them enough for it.

Who needs Sammy Pahlsson anyway?

While this doesn't directly talk about the Jackets it does provide food for thought as to some of the Jackets' issues.

"Team locked into 3rd seed for a month not skating hard enough to win Stanley Cup". It seems like The Onion.

The Jackets issues don't require a full-length article. They hit 4 posts and were getting robbed on the goalline last game. They're near the top of the league in hitting the pipes. Since the trade deadline the shooting percentage has fallen by half.

Alison Lukan just wrote a full length article about it.

Bjorkstrand with more career goals than Wennberg now, 163 fewer games.

Will Andy hit 30?
And since Christmas, he's the 3rd leading goal scorer despite getting an average TOI of 12:40, often paired with other members of Torts dog kennel. On the other hand, he, Jenner and Wennberg seem to be clicking. Actually Wennberg has perked up a bit, looking more like he did when playing with Jenner and Vanek for a stretch last year. Maybe this group can generate similar success over the final games.

Andy hitting 30? Might be too much to ask.
