Hello you all!

And now some enlightment to the Canadese players of non-British-Franco origin, please!

I will present the first ones I know and guess: 1920: Icelandic, 1928: Mueller (German), 1932: Lindqvist (Swedish), 1935; Yéllowless (Native American?), 1936: Pudas, Saxberg, Milton (Finnish), 1937: Kozak (Polish?), 1938: Silverman (Jewish), 1939: Scodellaro (Italian), Kowcinak (Slovak?), 1950: Christiansen (Danish), 1951: Malacko (Russian?), Rimstad (Norwegian?), Siray (Hungarian), 1955: Shebaga (Armenian?), 1958: Bonello (Maltese), 1959: Smerke (Serbian).

Any additions and corrections are most welcome!

Hello you all!

I will be visiting the towns, that sent their clubs as Team Canada to the LIHG/IIHF tournaments between 1920-1963.

Anyone knowing about contributions to these teams - museums, jubilees, other memorabilia and so on - is most welcome to give any information.

A very good read from a Canadian perspective is 'War on Ice' by the late Scott Young (yep, Neil Young's father), a Globe and Mail reporter from the era. Covers from 1954 (the first appearance of the Russian teams).

Hello you all!

I made a trip to Canada 10.2.-17.3.2014.

During the trip I stayed in most of the hockeyvilles sending Team Canadas overseas between 1920-1963.

The section is made in the memory of my late sister, Anu Suvi Helmilä (1951-2013).

Hey Jukka
First I must say great effort and site. Just have a comment to your WC 1949 report about Denmark where you state “They lost the rest of the games so badly, that they gave up the last game against Finland

About WC 1949 it is still very uncertain why Denmark left the WC, but they were improving only losing the third game 3-8 to Belgium, so playing Finland and Norway would not have been as one-sided as the Canada game.
Possible solutions:
http://www.internationalhockey.net/forums/showthread.php?3440-1949-Why-did-Denmark-leave-Stockholm
or
http://www.internationalhockey.net/forums/showthread.php?7767-Danish-Hockey-60-years

DIU's archives contain notes which may provide a rather solid explanation:
The Swedish organizers had placed the games in the consolation round on natural ice rinks around Stockholm. Towards the end of the tournament, the weather changed and the ice started melting. The organizers struggled to find suitable rinks and the games were postponed several times. The players were amateurs and some of them had to go back home to take care of their job.
Meanwhile, a couple of other players had catched a severe cold. Under these conditions, it was impossible to continue. The rest of the team stayed in Stockholm at Salsjöbaden hotel to watch the rest of the games at the organizers' expense

Do you by the way have collected a roster for Denmark in WC 1949 (with positions played?), since it is either fragmented or uncertain around the net.

What I have found so far I'm currently collecting here:

& also something about Jørgen Hviid in Latvia
