I suspect the NHL and NHLPA want to keep future seasons fully intact and not “shortened” in any way (number of games and revenue). There could be adjustment to start and end dates.
Regarding this season, I expect the same goals but time is going by quickly and it appears the impacts will last for 3 to 6 months so the regular season will be shortened and the playoffs will likely be shortened too. That is the best case scenario. The worst case is closing down completely without any playoffs.
