Conroy: How are banged-up Bruins still managing to win?

DALLAS — What we ultimately think of and remember from this Bruins team will be determined by the playoffs.

Sure, there is still home-ice advantage to clinch, but the only truly important task left in these last nine regular-season games is to get healthy. Re-insert those bodies into the lineup in time so that they’re a cohesive unit come the second week of April.
But, boy, are the B’s making these quasi-meaningless games fun or not?

  • Are there any Kevan Miller-bashers left in Boston? The hue and cry that went up when GM Don Sweeney chose to protect this Miller instead of Colin in the expansion draft was deafening. Yes, Colin Miller has found a nice home in Vegas. But at the age of 30, Kevan’s career trajectory is still rising.
  • Tuukka Rask is still rolling. He may have cooled off a bit since his 19-0-2 streak that catapulted the B’s into the upper echelon of the NHL, and his detractors are ready to pounce when he allows what they perceive to be a soft goal. But after losing three of four, he’s quietly riding a 7-0-1 streak, and his 40-save night in Big D might have been his best performance of the year.

  • Pick a six. The biggest decision facing Bruce Cassidy come playoff time is determining his top-six defensemen. When Sweeney obtained Nick Holden from the Rangers, the natural thought was rookie Matt Grzelcyk’s days were numbered, given how married the B’s seemingly were with having three lefties and three righties. (Chara and Krug were not coming out.)

If we play Toronto, I'd go with Carlo over McQuaid. Want someone able to keep up with their forwards a little more
than Quaider's toughness.

Chara - McAvoy
Gryz - K. Miller
Krug - Carlo

Krejci..........He has always been the most valuable Bruin. Not the best player mind you, but he has always been the straw that stirs the drink....He has been spectacular. And as usual underappreciated. His 200 foot game is great.

I always liked Kevan. He has improve so much . Chiller is good too but my choice over the two Millers was always Killer. You could always tell he is a leader too.

I am very proud of this team

I thought they should keep Colin, that is, until we saw what McAvoy could do in the playoffs.

From that point onward, it was pretty clear IMO that protecting Kevan over Colin was the right move for this team. As much as the league has moved towards puck-moving style D-men, you still need a decently balanced mix of skill-sets.

Kevan Miller might be the most improved player in hockey the last two years among his age group (28-30 year olds).

Bergeron has been the most valuable Bruin, during Krejci’s tenure, followed closely by Chara.

Krejci has been. The record proves it. 2010 playoffs prove it. 2011 playoffs prove it. What is our record without Bergeron the last month ?......

Again, Krejci has always been the most valuable Bruin during this run.
