If you're in the South Buffalo area and are looking for some fantastic chicken wings, try Can You Digg It out on Hopkins St. It's a bar with a dining room type set-up but it's actually not a bad place to take the family. I was there a few weeks ago and I'm looking to go there as soon as I have a night off of work.

They have these house sauce wings called "Smitty's House Wings"(get them medium) that are absolutely bomb. The normal Frank's Sauce medium wings are very good as well, not quite as good as places like Gabriel's Gate/BarBill, but they get the job more than done. Also if you're a fan of BBQ try out the "Loganberry BBQ" wings.

I've never had Doc Sullivan's, but yea this place is definitely worth a visit. They have a bunch of other things on the menu as well like burgers/beef on weck/etc but I've only had the wings. If you go there you need to get the Smitty's wings (get them medium heat!), they're so good.

Can You Digg It is where The Hop Inn used to be. I haven't been to Can You Digg It, but I would be cautious about sending out-of-towners to Hopkins Street. Not the best part of Buffalo to be in or to promote our wonderful city.

I grew up in South Buffalo and most of my family still lives their and I have never heard anything about Doc Sullivan's food. I'm definitely open to be corrected, but wouldn't be my first choice for anything at this point.

If you are in South Buffalo, I'd recommend Nine-Eleven for wings. They've gotten a little "wing-Nazi", but they are still very good. My boss' boss came in from Minnesota (maybe his 3rd or 4th trip) and he was asking about the place. Apparently word is getting around (although I was the only one in our office that knew what he was talking about.....so, maybe not?).

Doc Sullivan's was bought a couple years ago. The new owner gave the place a makeover and it looks fantastic. I've always loved their wings. But now they are also specializing in burgers which I've heard are cheap and fantastic. I haven't had their burgers yet though.

I've been to Nine-Eleven about a billion times for wings. They are awesome. I know the owner and yeah, definitely his way or the highway. And the men's bathroom is absolutely disgusting. I always get a chuckle out of the aids awareness poster.

I live right by Mercy Hospital. Are you familiar with Satckburger? It's a burger shack on Orchard Park Rd. By Wegmans. Take out only but fantastic. They are moving to somewhere on Abbott near Ridge and will have sit down service. I think that old weird place that looked like a grateful dead hangout.

And yeah the area around Hopkins sucks.

Not sure when I’d go, but sounds like I need to give Doc Sullivan’s another look.

O’Daniels on Abbott Road has a lot of fans. However, my brother who has cooked and been GM at many restaurants in town worked their. They said he had full control over the food. When he went to cook something properly, they told him that’s not how THEY do it and put it in the microwave. He quit the next day.

Therefore I am a little skeptic about South Buffalo places.

I’ve heard great things from friends about Stackburger but I haven’t tried it yet. They keep saying I need to go.

So for my 41st birthday bash I am going to take a Greyhound bus from New York to Buffalo on November 13th for the game against the Yotes and get the midnight bus back. My main goal is to finally get that elusive selfie with Sabretooth.

So my bus is going to get to Buffalo at around 6 in the morning. Any ideas what I can do to kill time around the terminal/arena, or even anything on the trolly? Is the Tims by the arena 24/7? I could bring books and hang out there drinking coffee. A nearby Starbucks could be an option because even though they suck compared to Tims I have gold status and can get unlimited free refills.

Im thinking that flights might be cheaper than the bus.

On a weekday at 5am it’s very likely pkaces will be open fir the breakfast and morning coffee crowd.

Where is pkaces in relation to the bus terminal/stadium/arena area? Also using MegaBus and it cost $50 for the round trip so it was half of what Greyhound would've cost. Any decent tourist attractions within reach of that general area or in reach of the light rail (museums/monuments/historic sites)? Also I know it's a total tourist trap but is the original Anchor Bar nearby? Just want to go there once for the hell of it. And finally my goal of this trip is to get that elusive selfie with Sabretooth. Where does he usually hang out in the arena before games?

Are you coming into the downtown bus terminal on Ellicott street?

If so, just look up addresses of places of interest of those that you mentioned and see if the walking distance is something you want to do :dunno:

Map it out to your hearts content.

While in the arena area, go to 716, harbor center may have hockey of some sort going on, Tim Hortons, canalside area to walk around.

Anything too far away that you wanna see ... take an Uber or cab.

Enjoy!

I am going to my first Bills in Buffalo this year. I have shown my wife a few of the YouTube clips of the tailgating. She isn’t super pumped about the game. Is there a section where To sit where it doesn’t get too crazy in the stands?

224, 225, 226, and 227 are family sections and I think are more tame. Pretty sure you can't drink alcohol there if that's a problem. You can always call and ask about it.

Hey everyone, Ranger fan in peace here. I’m heading up to Buffalo Columbus Day weekend for Rangers Sabres on 10/6 and I’m also catching Bills Titans on 10/7. Was just curious about good bar spots near both stadiums and also if there are any specific sections in either one that have a solid sight line but doesn’t kill you financially either.

Arena and stadium are about 10-14 miles apart, depending on route, 20 minutes apart, but on game day/night the transit time would change. You need to allow yourself time to get to the football stadium, and if you're staying downtown or west / lake side of the stadium, I would approach the stadium from the NYS route 5, vs. other options. Football stadium doesn't have a bad seat. Really tight seating to the field (minimal sideline / end zone area). Hockey is downtown / urban. Football is suburban. I always tailgate, calmly, before football games. I come self-contained with a few beers and some food. Either grill or do cold cut subs. Google search the New Era stadium and there are several grocery stores, McKinley mall with chain restaurants, etc. nearby to the north, east, and west. I'll let others chime in on local non-chain bars / restaurants.

For hockey, there's definitely more of the non-chain stuff at the downtown locale. Some renovated industrial bldgs into restaurants, etc. I've tried several, none bad. Again, I'll let others chime in.

If that's Columbus day weekend, weather can range from beautiful mid-80s sunshine to mid-50s rain, so pay heed before you depart home.

What bar would you suggest to go to and any cool pubs to visit before the game?

If you can get a reservation at 716 (which is connected to the arena), do it. I think they're having an event there for the fight. The place has a 40 foot tv.

716 is very nice, with very good food, and has a perfect setup for watching multiple events at once, or one big event.

Leafs fans (all fans) are perfectly welcome in this thread.

Look at your options if you're coming into town.

I am not a fan of 716.

Went there after Sabres - Flyers, last December 23.

Food mediocre, and a little pricey, though to be expected.

What was not expected was, with a bar full of Canadian and US hockey fans, they had, on the humongous screen; Basketball. Yep, a hockey night crowd and they, despite many requests for hockey, had basketball on.

I won't go back there.

Plenty of other options.

-Pearl Street
-Iron Works
-Cobblestone
-Lagerhaus....

I thought that 716 was so so--definitely not the top wings or beef and yet pricier. Sterile ambience--folks trying to be "cool". After about the third time I stuck with my not to be named favourite.

Chef's

IMO .... A great experience. It's a two min drive from the arena.

I didn’t make it to Chefs 3 years ago when you recommended it because all the tables were reserved. Already have my table for Saturday reserved. I am looking forward to it. Also trying Gabriel’s Gate before the Monday game.

Hey,

I loved the reco's I got last time I came here for advice (I still think about Bar Bil Tavern often), so I thought I'd do it again.

I'm coming into town for the Bills/Bears game for a buddies B-Day and staying from Saturday Nov 3rd until Nov 5th. So far the outline of a plan we have is this.

Saturday Night: Gabriel's Gate for wings, Leafs game somewhere (thinking 716), and probably Seneca Casino due to being degenerates.
Sunday: Tailgating at Hammer Lot, Game, lucky if we function as human beings after the game
Monday: Bar-bil and driving back to Toronto.

The quick questions I have are, where would be a place I could expect to watch the Leafs (Sabres play Ottawa early in the day so there isn't a conflict)? What are the best wings in the downtown/Allentown area? I'm staying in Elmwood Village, I'm inclined to go to Gabriel's Gate. Finally, any good bars you would recommend in Allentown or Elmwood Village. Not looking for a club or such, just a good place to sit down and have a couple.

Thanks in advance.
